Pop sensation H3RIZON is a force to be reckoned with and is carving its own path to stardom. The Australian R&B girl group is pushing boundaries with their own unique style and has amassed over 1.7 million followers on TikTok through their stunning three-part harmonies.
Born in Australia, with FILIPINO and Mauritian heritage, Bernie, Taya and Gabby are on a mission to empower and encourage other Women, especially Women of Colour who have previously been so poorly represented in western media. Inspired by the female groups who they’ve looked up to since they first discovered music, the like of Spice Girls, TLC and Destiny’s Child, it is now H3rizon’s time to divide and conquer and they’re forging a legacy of sisterhood, inclusivity and positive mental health along the way.
The girls became a singing group, having met and admired each other at mutual solo gigs. Together they realised that they are more than just singers though, they are artists in their own right with their own personal stories to share with the world. From this pivotal moment of self-reflection the girls were fueled with a fierce determination to make their mark, defining a fresh new look to complement their already distinctive sound. H3rizon was born. Characterised by their Pop, Soul and RnB inspired style, and enhanced by incredible vocal arrangements, their unique interpretation of melodies and mesmerising harmonies are leaving audiences in awe at the group’s amazing sound.
Their diversity is their forte and each brings their own unique flare to the group. Gabby, an acclaimed soprano who studied at the exclusive Sydney Conservatorium of Music; Taya with her incredible Ariana-style RnB voice; and Bernie’s soulful tones and beat-making abilities. With mutual trust and a wealth of musical talent H3rizon add an element of risk, excitement, and fearlessness to everything they produce.
After a year of development and refining their sound the girls confidently reclaimed the narrative of femininity in RnB with Maniac, released in 2020, and their TikTok version of Duncan Laurence’s Arcade has been seen nearly 74 million times. Attracting attention with their viral videos H3rizon were invited to be part of the Women of TikTok campaign in early 2021 and as part of the project they released their own take of In The Name Of Love by Bebe Rexha and Martin Garrix to support and uplift other women to seek out opportunities in the music industry.
With each release the girls have given a different taste of their sound and new single “SERIOUS” is no exception. Sassy and Y2K-esque, “SERIOUS” comes as a fun and upbeat addition to their repertoire, imagining a relationship that shouldn’t be taken too seriously and posing the question “why so serious?”. Sharing each girl’s personal perspectives through the lyrics, the track also nods to Gabby’s classical training with a vocal line sampled from her high school classical music assignment and laughing at the end which was sampled from a recording on her phone.
Not only does “SERIOUS” hold nostalgia as one of their earliest co-writes, it also serves as a reminder of how far they have come together since that day together in the studio, especially for Bernie who was first discovering her passion for production while experimenting on this track with producer and co-writer Philippe-Marc Anquetil (Little Mix, One Direction, Ruel, Shinee, TVXQ, Kumi Koda).
When it came to developing a concept for the music video the girls wanted to create a fun and playful visual that would also showcase the bold side of their personalities. Playing with the song’s light-hearted sentiment of not taking life too seriously, they worked with upcoming director Rowena Rasmussen and choreographer Cassie Bartho to bring their vision to life. They each embody a different character with their own playful twist, Taya a cook, Gabby a weather girl, and Bernie an aerobics instructor, to invite us into the infectious visual universe of Serious.
“SERIOUS” was the second song we ever wrote together, so it’s really special to us and we couldn’t be more proud of how far we’ve come. And to now officially release it to the rest of the world is something we’ve anticipated for so long! We want to thank our incredible team who’ve worked so hard alongside us to make this happen. We can’t wait to step into the next phase of our H3rizon journey and where this single will take us.”
Along with all of their musical merit, H3rizon are on the brink of innovation as the first signing to Moneplay, a new digital label powered by the blockchain, with an NFT smart contract for each single. Their first headline show took shape as an international Zoom concert and the girls are developing their own space within the digital universe. With their innovative approach to tech and alternative revenue streams H3rizon are navigating their own way within a rapidly changing landscape.
