GMA Network is pitting its biggest drama series yet this year against ABS-CBN’s rating-magnet, ‘FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano, which is inching closer and closer in TV ratings, to the Alden Richards-headliner, The World Between Us.
Cardo Dalisay’s magic remains alive.
That’s how the show is suggesting. With [still] high ratings, despite the limited coverages of TV5 and A2Z, where the show is currently airing.
Now approaching its sixth year, FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano has repeatedly broken into the top three most-watched shows nationwide, according to TV rating provider AGB Nielsen.
On Friday, August 20, the show reduced the lead of the currently most-watched primetime series, The World Between Us, to just 1.1%. That lead even went slimmer to 0.5% on Monday, August 23, the day FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano, welcome its newest character, Mara, played by Julia Montes.
Mara is reportedly to serve as Cardo Dalisay’s newest love interest, following the exit of Jane De Leon’s character, Lia Mante, on August 20, the same day which also set a new concurrent viewership record for the Coco Martin-led show.
Barely two months on-air, The World Between Us, which stars Alden Richards, Jasmine Curtis-Smith, and Tom Rodriguez, is reportedly taking a season break. The move vacates its current post-24 Oras timeslot. It pushes Legal Wives to move 40 minutes ahead of its current 8:40 PM time slot.
Legal Wives will be the third Kapuso show to be pitted with FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano, since ABS-CBN lost its franchise.
The show previously confronted First Yaya, which completed its four-month run in July. The World Between Us has since been going head-to-head with the Kapamilya show.
Before ABS-CBN’s shutdown in May last year, the Kapamilya action series previously went head-to-head with 16 Kapuso shows.
The list includes big-budgeted shows like Encantadia, Mulawin vs Ravena, Alyas Robinhood, and Descendants of the Sun.
ABS-CBN has recently announced the extension of FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano, putting an end to a long-circulating rumor that Cardo Dalisay’s finally taking his rest to give way for Martin’s rumored entry to politics. But as that seems not to be the case, GMA Network may likely have to come up with a better show that can finally stop Dalisay from outliving more Kapuso shows.
A canned show, Legal Wives is more likely to be outlived by FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano, as ABS-CBN can’t put an end to its no.1 show yet, anytime soon.
The battle for post-primetime newscast time slot supremacy between GMA Network’s Legal Wives and ABS-CBN’s FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano, begins this coming Monday, August 30, after 24 Oras and TV Patrol, respectively.
