No amount of fame and achievement would make Kapuso star Derrick Monasterio feel as if he is to stand side by side with Alden Richards as his rival.
“Hindi,” said Derrick when asked during the virtual press conference for his latest single Virgo, on August 18.
Monasterio sees Ricahrds as his ‘brother,’ making it impossible to perceive him as a competition.
“Alden, being my brother na hindi kami magkapatid talaga pero brother ang tingin ko sa kanya,” he described Alden.
To add, Derrick shared how he and Alden help each other turn their respective weaknesses into strengths.
“He’s there to guide me sa mga bagay na hindi ako gano’n kagaling. Iga-guide ko din s’ya sa mga bagay na hindi siya ganoon kagaling.
“Kami, more on suportahan. Hindi namin kino-compete yung isa’t-isa kasi Alden na ‘yon eh.”
In a separate interview on August 14, Monasterio expressed how deep his ‘brotherly love’ toward Ricahrds is ever since they get to work on the horror film, The Road.
“I love Alden. Brother ko ‘yun ever since The Road days. Kasama ko si Alden sa L.A. nang mag-premiere ang The Road, hindi pa [ganoon kasikat si] Alden noon, pero nakita ko ang totoong Alden.
“Hanggang ngayon, gano’n pa rin. Kaya ko siya mahal na mahal and I respect him so much and I love him, he never changed,” revealed the actor.
As a sign of great respect to his ‘brother,’ Derrick is willing to do a concert similar to that of Alden’s Adrenaline Rush concert in 2018.
“Yes, given the chance why not? It’s a fresh concept, maganda ang konsepto. And wala na rin naman na akong masyadong ginagawa dito sa bahay.”
In the meantime, Monasterio is busy promoting his upcoming single Virgo which will be released on August 20. He is also part of Legal Wives, GMA Network’s latest offering on its Kapuso Primetime slot.
