My Amanda actor and director Alessandra De Rossi shared her experience directing and acting in her Netflix movie and why she was hospitalized during their filming.
In her interview, she referred to her experience acting and directing as ‘physically draining,’ which led to her hospitalization.
“Physically, it’s draining. Na-hospital ako after nine days. Yeah, because I kept everything inside. Ayaw kong bumaba ‘yung energy sa set, so lahat ng stress ko parang nandito lang.”
She then revealed the challenges she faced during filming, which cost her several trips to the hospital.
“Parang ‘yung, ‘Alex uulan, anong gagawin ko. Hindi pwede, mahal ‘tong location na ‘to hindi na tayo babalik, kailangan mo na s’yang kunan. Paano? Against the wall. Against the wall?’
“Tapos iniisip ko na, ‘writer, anong gagawin mo, magre-rewrite ka ba ano pa. Sa ibang araw na lang ganon? So parang halo-halo ‘yung feelings. So ‘yun pagkauwing-pagkauwi parang after two days, sumakit na ‘yung back ko, sumakit na ‘yung t’yan ko.
“Ayun na, hospital. ‘Yung bank account ko hindi nag-recover kasi three times s’ya nangyari. In two weeks. Yeah. Hindi ko maintindihan ‘yung nararamdaman ko.”
Her co-actor and My Amanda producer Piolo Pascual shared his observation on Alessandra’s hospitalization.
“Yes, because she was taking on so much, and then it was taking its toll on her physically. She was getting disappointed, getting frustrated because of the things that she wanted.”
Piolo then revealed how Alessandra was during her directorial debut.
“It was easy being directed by Alessandra because she knew her material. She knew her script. She knew what she wanted. She knew her shots. I didn’t have to think about Alessandra as an actress because I knew she could take it on.
“I knew she could handle it. I knew she could wing it no matter what. I just believed in the script, I just believed in the project, and I just went along with her, and I just had fun.”
If given a chance, Alessandra said she wanted to experience directing a film again without joining in as an actress.
“Gusto kong ulitin ‘yung director na hindi ako as an actor. Kasi hindi ko talaga na-enjoy ‘yung experience as a director, kasi wala ka sa monitor, you feel the scene. Kasi ako wala eh, preview na lang pinapanood ko.”
As for their film, My Amanda launches globally on Netflix on July 15. It follows two unusually close friends TJ and Amanda, who share every aspect of their lives together. As their lives evolve, their bond remains the only constant.
