Coming on the heels of the success of their debut single, kbye, Kasmala continues ALAMAT’s shaping up as an emerging P-Pop powerhouse.
Much like their previously-released tracks kbye, Sandigan, and Tibay ‘Yan–Kasmala is well-utilized to serve as a screaming testament to ALAMAT’s commitment to showcasing their talent while paying homage to their individual ethnicities.
The track’s music video, which was released this week, similarly explodes in vibrant colors, as well as contagious energy that was largely created in the explosive fusion of the group’s diverse vocals and grooves.
Kasmala’s music video is a time capsule, that takes its spectators back to the early 1900s. Anyone who’s familiar with the 1904 St.Louis World Exposition, knows that one point when a number of Philippines tribesmen were shipped to the United States to be exhibited in human zoos.
ALAMAT mimics that moment, but this time the object of the exhibit is not the mortifying experience of our ancestors. Kasmala, instead shifts the focus on the group’s ancestral roots, their individual talents, and colorful individual identities, that make ALAMAT unique, from their contemporaries.
This track has very inviting tendencies. As it both features native and EDM styles. Kasmala can pretty well make your feet dance to its energy infused-beats. The track, which tells about a young man’s admiration of a girl, and his quest to earn her ‘yes’, obligingly complies with the group’s vision to mix music, dance, fashion, and iconography in their bid to help expedite P-Pop’s invasion of the global music scene.
The eight-member group, as usual, is handsomely groomed in the music video, which features a fusion of the old and the new via the boys’ epic.
All its members—Taneo, Mo, Tomas, R-Ji, Valfer, Alas, Gami, Jao, and Kin are fashionably dressed to represent various ethnic groups, in the country. It adds extra-angst not just to the overall appeal of the music video, but also to each member of the group, who all carry their diverse fashion styles with oozing confidence.
Last month, the group first saw its collaboration with another local act. Through Coke Studio, ALAMAT and International Pop Urban artist, Inigo Pascual delivered the empowering track, Tibay ‘Yan, which may have just marked the beginning of the group’s further big collaborations with other acts.
