Former Kapamilya director and Starmaker, Johnny Manahan, also known as Mr. M spoke about network wars amid his shift to GMA Network.
On Manahan’s transfer to Kapuso network, the notion of network wars got awaken; knowing that the Starmaker was once a Kapamilya who successfully created a space for most stars in ABS-CBN.
He expressed his disbelief in ‘Kapamilya versus Kapuso’ and encouraged artists to never burn bridges as they move around in one industry.
“I personally don’t believe in the network wars. I have always been friendly to other networks wherever I’m at that time.
“So that is also what we try to inculcate in our artists… make sure that you do not burn your bridges. You should be friendly with all the networks because they are the ones who are going to know… give you your next project,” Manahan uttered.
On July 13, Mr. M signed a contract with GMA Network. During the contract signing, he revealed that he was ‘not exactly a stranger’ to GMA Network. He described his transfer as a ‘homecoming of sorts.’
He extended his gratitude to GMA executives who allowed him to work with the network.
“I’m very happy that Atty. [Felipe] Gozon and the rest of the executives have given me this chance and opportunity to work with GMA-7 and become a Kapuso,” thankful, Mr. M.
When asked about the landscape of television in today’s era, Manahan shared his take on the trend.
He mentioned the birth of new media where he sees as a competition to the traditional landscape of television.
“So right now, even in the landscape of television, money is hard to get… and the industries are going through a change because of all the new media that’s coming in… nang-aagaw sila ng pera, nang-aagaw sila ng eyeballs… so people are just trying to figure out what to do the new landscape,” Mr. M emphasized.
