Kapuso comedian Michael V. revealed the peg for the Pepito Manaloto: Ang Unang Kwento sitcom.
In a recent online presscon for the show’s cast, the comedian revealed that his new creation is inspired by John en Marsha, a television sitcom that aired on the Radio Philippines Network from May 1973 to 1990.
He shared, “May peg kami before, yung John en Marsha. I grew up watching that. I think yung formula ng John en Marsha medyo binago lang namin ng konti. It’s really no secret, it’s family and it has to be relevant.
“Kaya ginawa namin yung Unang Kwento para mas maging relevant at tsaka mas maging relatable.”
The comedian admitted that making up new stories is not an easy task.
He said laughingly, “Mahirap mag-imbento ng kwento hahaha. I mean masarap mag-imbento ng kwento minsan napapahamak dahil sa ginagawa mo.”
He also revealed that book two of Pepito Manaloto will cover scenes that are taken from real-life experiences of its cast.
“Mas maganda kasi gawan ng script yung totoong nangyari talaga” he explained.
Why did Michael V. decide to present Pepito Manaloto: Ang Unang Kwento as a prequel?
“I think it’s the best direction kasi ito yung part ng story ng Pepito Manaloto na hindi pa nae-explore. It gives the creative team so much freedom to do whatever they want. Although, kahit may limitations, marami pa rin silang pwede i-discuss” the comedian reasoned.
Michael V. also mentioned that the upcoming sitcom will showcase more talents from GMA Network.
“Also to flex set of talents na alam nating matagal ng kasama sa GMA Network pero hindi pa nabibigyan ng ganitong task.
“I think itong mga hinand pick namin to play certain characters will definitely be part of the family, hindi lang mga Manaloto family kundi lahat ng pamilya na manonood at sumusubaybay ng Pepito Manaloto,” he said.
Pepito Manaloto: Ang Unang Kwento will premiere on July 17, Saturday.
Set in the ’80s, it will follow the love story of young Elsa and Pepito.
Mikee Quintos would portray Elsa, who was originally played by Manilyn Reynes. Meanwhile, Sef Cadayona will take on the role of Pepito, previously portrayed by Michael V.
The much-awaited sitcom will also star Gladys Reyes, Pokwang, Angel Guardian, Kokoy de Santos, and many others.
