“Maine’s goal is designed to take her out of her comfort zone. That’s the very definition and concept of the show.”
That is what Direk Mike Tuveria said in the virtual launch of BuKo (Buhay Komedya), a comedy channel of Cignal TV and APT Entertainment, Monday, July 5.
Tuveria is the director for Mendoza’s upcoming show in BuKo.
He revealed that the upcoming show of the actress was catered to her goals in life. Since Cignal and APT want her to be the opening salvo of the channel, they asked what kind of show she would like to do.
Apparently, Mendoza was interested in doing a program that is like a “bucket list.”
“…she wanted to do something like a bucket list,” admitted the director.
Tuveria then revealed that Mendoza is an introvert. To get the actress out of her comfort zone, he had her spend a week on a farm.
“So pinag-usapan namin. Kasi, in reality, si Maine kasi—leads a very introverted life. She’s very shy,” said Tuveria.
“The cool thing about this is before we started the show, we met with Maine. And we talked about the things she hasn’t done, things she wanted to do. You would not think na it’s not the usual, like farm life. We have this week where she just helps out on a farm. The whole time she’s just helping out and seeing what farmers go through on a daily basis.”
Not only is the show designed to take Maine out of her shell, but it was also aligned with her advocacies.
“It’s not something you would think Maine was curious about. But she was very curious about that. Because she has advocacies naman in terms of like health and what we put into our bodies,” added the director.
Tuveria was amazed to see the actress at work. And it’s not just about how entertaining Mendoza is. It’s because he gets to see her grow and taste a bit more of life.
“Not only it’s funny and entertaining, but you also get to watch Maine and watch her grow. She’s experiencing things na hindi pa niya na-experience. Sinabi niya nga sa’min na, ‘I’m realizing na medyo sheltered pala yung experience ko, yung buhay ko. Kasi there’s so much more out there to experience.’ So Maine’s goal is her attempt to experience more from life.”
BuKo channel is the first-ever local comedy channel in the Philippines. It will feature some of the classic shows such as Iskul Bukol, Wow Mali, LokoMokoU, and Eat Bulaga’s popular segments like “Little Miss Philippines” and “Pinoy Henyo.”
