Johnny ‘Mr. M’ Manahan revealed that some ABS-CBN artists approached him and expressed willingness in joining him in GMA Network.
GMA Network officially welcomed Mr. M as a Kapuso on July 13.
Mr. M is the former head of Star Magic, the talent management arm of ABS-CBN, and left the said position in 2020 when he moved to TV5.
As he moved to GMA Network, Mr. M shared that there were Kapamilya artists who wished to join him in the transfer.
However, he advised them not to leave ABS-CBN since they are doing well there and they still have existing contracts.
“Ang sabi ko, ‘Diyan na lang muna kayo’, kasi okay naman ang lakad nila. They were able to get very nice contracts for them doon.”
He then advised them to decide again about the network shift if their contract already expired.
“Just wait until the contracts are finished and then you can make up your mind kung saan kayo talagang mananatili.”
Now that he is a Kapuso, Mr. M wishes to focus on the homegrown talents of GMA Network rather than those who came from other networks.
“Maganda kasi yung layunin na ganun eh, yung uunahin muna yung homegrown talents rather than the tumatalon ng bakod. That’s one of the main goals of the Artist Center is to prioritize homegrown talents.”
Mr. M also brought with him some of his people from ABS-CBN to make their work easier. Considering the experience that these people have, they can surely be of great help to the Kapuso network.
He is glad that the Kapuso executives also welcomed some of his people warmly.
Despite his move to GMA Network, Mr. M clarified that he will not direct any projects in the said network, but he will only serve as a consultant of the GMA Artist Center.
Mr. M is now in the game of developing new Kapuso stars that will conquer showbiz.
“Kung ano pa ‘yung kulang sa kanila, we hope to develop that and give them a brighter shine. So abangan n’yo, mga Kapuso.
“Maybe in six or seven months meron na kaming bagong mga artista sa GMA, and to the other artists who have been there a long time, I think I can learn from them, and I hope they can learn from us, also.”
