Former Kapamilya superstar Bea Alonzo claimed that she and ABS-CBN came to a “mutual” decision just to cancel her project.
“I was doing a soap for them. But then nagkar’on ng pandemic. And alam naman natin na maraming pagbabago. So nagkaroon rin ng pagbabago sa story. And we came to a decision na hindi na lang matutuloy yung soap,” explained Alonzo.
On July 1, Thursday, Alonzo was welcomed by the Kapuso Network as an official part of their roster.
Moreover, the actress clarified that she has the uttermost respect for ABS-CBN. But to set the record straight, Alonzo revealed that for almost a year, she not only had no projects with the Network, but her contract was terminated as well.
“Malaking-malaki ang respeto ko sa ABS-CBN lalong-lalo na sa production team nila. And of course nirespeto natin ang mutual decision namin na ‘yun. And if I’m not mistaken, parang one year na rin akong walang ginagawang soap at walang contract,” she added.
Still, the actress, during her remaining days as a Kapamilya, was not rushing to transfer to GMA Network. She admitted asking for guidance with what steps she would do for her career.
“But it took me many months na pag-iisip, pagre-reflect. Kung ano yung gusto kong gawin sa buhay ko, how do I want to move forward. Siguro lahat tayo merong silent moments na ‘Lord guide me, kung anong next step ko sa buhay ko.”
And when she was finally offered a contract from GMA Network, Alonzo felt that it was the right time for her to move on.
“At tamang-tamang dumating yung offer ng GMA. And at that point, para bang ano—it just felt right. S’yempre months of negotiations with SK (Shirley Kuan). And when I finally met them, to be honest, sa Zoom natin, it just felt na I was at peace. Na parang ito yung final. I trust my intuition. I always follow my heart. And now I follow my heart.”
But it seems that the actress was not telling the whole truth.
Kapamilya director, Erick Salud shared a different version of the story.
On his Twitter account, he tweeted that Alonzo already started taping for her now-canceled Kapamilya project. Salud also reiterated the actress’s statement that she was not yet ready to do locked-in taping. But then, the director was surprised to know that she is set to transfer to GMA Network.
“So ayun nga. Lumipat nga ang isang aktres. Bakit kaya? Eh may project siya na nasimulan at napromote na prior pandemic. Tapos say niya, ‘di pa siya ready magshooting. Ayun pala lilipat. AAAARTE!!! Naghihirap ba siya? Eh may big farm nga. Kaloka siya!!!”
Even ABS-CBN executive Ethel Espiritu was mad about the actress’s transfer. Espiritu on her Twitter even called Alonzo an “ingrate” for leaving the Network while she obviously had left some unfinished business.
Iba-iba kasi ang kuwento ng mga lumilipat. Yung iba maiintindihan mo talaga. Pero kung ikaw, me iniwang “unfinished business” inofferen ka pa BUT you still chose otherwise, turnoff talaga. Unless me very valid reason siya. BUT, otherwise? INCONSIDERATE. Sabi ng iba? INGRATO.

And now, Alonzo is doing a primetime project for the Kapuso Network.
“Meron na ‘kong teleserye na gagawin pero hahayaan ko na lang ang GMA mag-disclose kung ano ‘yon because I think hindi ko pa siya puwede sabihin,” the actress told GMANetwork.com.
