Actor Paolo Gumabao talked about entering the showbiz industry with a showbiz lineage. He said that he considers it as an advantage and not as a curse.
The 22-year-old actor is the son of former actor Dennis Roldan and Sheryl Sorreta. He is the half-brother of Kapamilya actor Marco Gumabao and beauty queen Michele Gumabao.
In an exclusive interview with Paolo, the actor said that coming from a family of artists is only advantageous on limited points.
“Honestly, it’s always gonna be an advantage. Pero, it doesn’t stop there. Advantage siya pero once nabigyan ka ng mga opportunities kailangan mong pagtrabahuhan pa rin,” he said.
He explained that having a showbiz lineage is not a key to immediately having big projects. He said that artists still need to work hard to prove themselves in the showbiz industry.
“Pwede siyang stepping stone to enter showbiz. But from there on, kailangan mo na talagang pagtrabahuhan, you need to hone your skills as an artist,” said Paolo.
The actor also said that he dreamt of becoming an actor even before he knew that he had a showbiz lineage. He wanted to become an actor at the age of seven and only discovered his showbiz lineage at the age of 14.
With regards to his relationship with his other siblings, Paolo said that they eventually grew close together despite being awkward at first.
“We’re great. Ever since nung nagkakilala kame, of course nung una, parang bago to sa amin ah. Nung una, naninibago kame. Pero as time went by, naging sobrang close na rin kame. ‘Yung mga similarities namin lumitaw, tapos na realize namin na ‘oo nga, magkapatid nga talaga kame”, he explained.
Paolo Gumabao first entered the showbiz industry in 2014 through The Firefighters: The Unsung Heroes. He then became a Kapuso artist when he signed a contract with the network in 2016.
He became a part of Regal Entertainment’s film I Love You To Death. He recently signed a contract with ABS-CBN talent management arm, Star Magic.
At present, Paolo is headlining an upcoming BL film by no less than Joel Lamangan titled Lockdown.
