Award-winning actress Lovi Poe revealed that acting awards drive her to do better.
During the media conference for the Viva Films production The Other Wife, Poe admitted that winning awards excites her.
“Parang, every time naman po, it feels new again. Parang, you’ll never get used to that feeling. It excites me, and it drives me to do better. ‘Yung parang ganon ‘yung feeling.”
However, she clarified that her goal when acting is to enjoy what she’s doing.
“I guess, basically parang I don’t work on a project na ‘yun ‘yung goal ko. Ang goal ko po talaga is to enjoy and make myself feel satisfied. And parang, at the end of the day, if I am given an award for it, then I am grateful.
“And, I’ll be so happy, parang sakin kasi ‘yung satisfaction sa sarili ko ‘yun ‘yung pinaka importante. And of course, to make my director happy is /important.
“And, at the end of the day talaga, gusto ko lang talaga na happy ako sa ginawa ko sa trabaho ko. ‘Yun lang po talaga.”
Poe then shared her thoughts on meticulous acting versus acting from the heart.
“Sometimes hindi mo naman po maiiwasan na parang, ‘ah, I should have done this. Siguro, this would have been a better choice.’ Ganito, pero then I feel it won’t come out naturally anymore.
“Kasi parang for me, yes may mga moments na you have to be calculated but sometimes kasi ako I act from the heart. Kung ano ‘yung nararamdaman ko at that moment, I just trust the process and then ‘yun ‘yung lalabas.”
She also admitted that she’s her own worst critic.
“I’m my own worst critic din naman po. There are times na parang, ‘was that good enough?’ And direk said, ‘I’m happy. You don’t have to ano na.’ Si direk naman ii-stop n’ya at sasabihin n’ya ‘yung gusto n’yang mangyari.”
Throughout her career, Poe won multiple awards, such as FAMAS Best Actress in 2010 for Sagrada Familia, Golden Screen Awards for Best Performance of an Actress in a Leading Role in 2011 for Mayohan, and Film Academy of the Philippine Awards for FAP Award for Best Supporting Actress in 2012 for Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow.
Her most recent award is for the 3rd Gawad Lasallianeta 2020 for Most Outstanding TV Performance by an Actress in 2020 for her Magpakailanman episode titled Ang Asawang Naging Kabit.
Today, she stars in the Viva Films psychological thriller, The Other Wife, alongside Joem Bascon and Rhen Escaño. The film directed by Prime Cruz is currently available for streaming via Vivamax.
