By being part of showbiz and a political family, Kapamilya actor Jake Ejercito considers it both a blessing and a curse.
“It’s both a blessing and a curse, I would say. Kasi siyempre coming from a political family, di ko made-deny na may perks din yan. Like nung bata kami, may bodyguards kami.
“I guess, may special treatment din. But it’s also a curse kasi parang bukas ang buhay mo sa public eh. But I guess it comes with the territory talaga. You just have to learn to live with it,” admitted the actor in an exclusive interview with LionhearTV.
Ejercito, is the son of prominent actor Joseph Estrada and former actress-turned-producer Laarni Enriquez. At a young age, He and his siblings were opened to the world of showbusiness. But when his father decided to enter politics, their lives became messy.
In 1998, the actor’s father became the President of the Philippines. But an unfortunate event struck his family when Estrada was alleged of corruption. In 2000, the House of Representatives has filed an impeachment case against the former President.
Ejercito recalled that during his father’s trial, they were constantly being bullied at school. And in 2001, the year EDSA II Revolution started, it ended the tenure of Estrada as the Philippine President.
The actor was open about the fact that his father tendered his resignation as President due to the humiliation after he was charged with corruption. Ejercito and his siblings accepted that it will be part of their lives forever.
“Definitely. I mean I was 10 years old during my dad’s impeachment trial. I was 11 nung EDSA Dos nung napababa siya sa pwesto niya. Kaya parang it’s already part of our lives sa aming magkakapatid,” admitted Ejercito.
With his line of work and being a son of Estrada, Ejercito cannot avoid the criticism and the bashers. But the actor revealed that he was used to it ever since he was a kid.
“Kaya these days, hindi maiiwasan na may mga bashers. Pero parang wala na rin eh. Kasi ever since we were kids, nararanasan na namin yun. Kahit sa school nabubully kami. So we were kind of used to it actually. Before social media, before Facebook and Twitter, naba-bash na kami,” he added.
In the meantime, Ejercito on April 30, was finally introduced as part of ABS-CBN’s roster of talents under Star Magic. After almost a year of waiting, he is now set to do a series called, Marry Me, Marry You with former Kapuso stars Janine Gutierrez and Sunshine Dizon.
In Marry Me, Marry You, the actor will play the third party between Paulo Avelino’s and Janine Gutierrez’s characters. Kapamilyas will also get to see the pairing of Gutierrez and Avelino for the very first time.
