Kapamilya star Vice Ganda revealed that he wants to prove something to his home network, ABS-CBN.
In an interview with Ogie Diaz on his YouTube channel, Vice Ganda said that despite the shutdown of the Kapamilya network, he still tries his best with his noontime show It’s Showtime as well as his newly launched game show Everybody, Sing!
“Gusto kong may mapatunayan kame sa ABS-CBN. Kahit ginanyan niyo ‘yung network namin, we can still make it.
“ABS-CBN, the Kapamilya Network, will not just survive. But we will thrive. We will thrive in the midst of this crisis,” he said.
To recall, the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) issued a cease-and-desist order against ABS-CBN last May 5, 2020. This was after the NTC refused to renew the network’s franchise license earlier in February 2020.
This forced the media giant to shut down its free-to-air broadcasting operations.
Despite the shutdown, Vice Ganda said that the Kapamilyas continue to thrive because of their love for their home network.
“Ginagawa namin ‘yun kase mahal ko ‘yung [ABS-CBN]. Mahal natin ang [ABS-CBN]. Kaya pinipili nating itaguyod ‘yung [ABS-CBN] kase nga mahal natin. Pamilya ‘yan eh,” he said.
He then compared ABS-CBN’s situation to the situation of most families saying, “Diba ganun ‘yung pamilya mo. Kaya mo pinipilit [itaguyod] kahit hirap na hirap ka na kase patutunayan mo hindi lang sa ibang tao pati sa sarili mo na ‘kaya namin ‘to’. Hindi tayo babagsak nang tuluyan.”
The comedian also said that he continues to fight for his home network because he loves his work and that his career is his life.
“Ito inilalaban ko, kasi mahal na mahal ko ‘yung ginagawa ko,
“I’m fighting for this because this is my life. So, I’m fighting for my life,” said Vice Ganda.
ABS-CBN recently marked its first anniversary of being shut down on free TV and radio.
In its latest financial report published Tuesday, June 8, the Kapamilya network accounted its net loss for 2020 at 13.5 billion up by more than 400% from 2019’s 2.64 billion.
Its consolidated revenue on the other hand was down by 50% at 21.4 billion from 2019’s 42.8 billion pesos.
Despite bleeding financially, ABS-CBN continues to be in the service of its audience by creating fresh content and programs.
The network’s cable channel, Kapamilya Channel also served as a big help in keeping the network afloat.
