Former president Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III passed away on Thursday (June 24). He was 61.
Initial reports said Aquino was brought to the Capitol Medical Center in Quezon City early today for undisclosed reasons.
Aquino was the only son of former senator Ninoy Aquino and former president Cory Aquino. He was elected president in 2010. He followed his mother’s footsteps and served as the country’s 15th president from June 2010 to June 2016.
Aquino served as a senator before getting elected to the country’s highest government post from 2007 to 2010 and a representative of Tarlac in the lower house from 1998 to 2007.
Ever since he left Malacañang, Aquino spent a quiet retirement from politics.
