Davao City Mayor Sara “Inday” Duterte-Carpio received the lashing of personalities and Netizens following her criticism against Vice President Leni Robredo.
On Monday, June 14, Duterte-Carpio was offended by the “advice” of Robredo after the city she is governing is ridiculed due to the spike of COVID-19 cases.
Robredo’s suggestion was during an interview in a radio program when she was asked about the recent spike of cases in Davao City.
“Ito sa Davao, siya ngayon ang number 1. Mas marami siya kesa Quezon City, kahit more than a million na mas mababa ang population niya… Makakatulong na tingnan kung anong ginawa sa Cebu,” commented Robredo.
But the suggestion of the Vice President was not taken well by the Davao City mayor. Duterte-Carpio said that Robredo’s statement was “political.”
“The Vice President should refrain from giving advice if she knows nothing about what is happening on the ground.
“This has been the hallmark of her term as VP, where she puts forth comments on matters and affairs she lacks understanding and knowledge on and does not offer anything helpful to solve a problem,” the mayor retorted.
“The VP should avoid involving the COVID-19 surge in Davao City in her attempt at politicking. There will be a proper time to attack my performance… if she dares to run for President,” added Duterte-Carpio.
This remark coming from a Davao City mayor ridiculing the position of Robredo received a backlash over twitter.
A netizen pointed that maybe Davao City, which Duterte-Carpio governs, has failed in its Covid-19 management, that is why the mayor took offense to Robredo’s statement.

Another netizen pointed the difference between Duterte-Carpio’s position and that of Robredo. One is a part of a local government unit, while the other is of the national government.
He stressed that Robredo has the authority, being the Vice President of the Philippines, to advise her subordinates, which in this case, is the Presidential daughter.
Stupid Sara w/o Honesty
If your position is NATIONAL in scope just like the Vice President, even localities like Davao are your areas of jurisdiction.

Kevin Manalo likewise compared Robredo’s position as the second-highest national official of the country against her critic, Duterte-Carpio.
Since Robredo is the elected Vice President–he pointed that it is her responsibility to sympathize and address the problems of the entire nation.
The Vice President is the second-highest national official elected by the Filipino people…malamang may pakialam siya sa nangyayari sa bansa.

Pia Magalona, the widow of the late Francis Magalona clapped back at Duterte-Carpio for telling Robredo that she lacked the knowledge of the situation.
She stressed that Robredo knows what is happening on the ground. That is why she has the right to comment on the matter.
But she knows quite a lot, so she CAN comment… https://t.co/invzkrVeCC

The truth hurts, according to someone. That made Duterte-Carpio attack Robredo and called the suggestion as politically-motivated.’
The Truth Hurts ba SARA without H-honesty!? Like Father Like Daugther! Pikon, Incompetent at Walang Modo! #DuterteLegacy #RunSaraRun to your Daddy #DutertePalpak #DuterteTraydor #DuterteInutil #DuterteDuwag #DuterteCorrupt https://t.co/iRrIpDGdwA

ABS-CBN’s Starpop Label Head Roque Rox Santos considered the retaliation of Duterte-Carpio at Robredo as a way to deal with her insecurity.

Blogger Tonyo Cruz emphasized that the suggestion of Robredo was not offensive in any manner.
Since the COVID-19 management of Davao City is failing, Cruz stressed that it is appropriate for the VP to offer suggestions instead of praising the Mayor.

A twitter personality pointed that the status of Davao City in terms of its COVID-19 management is the reason for Robredo to make such a comment.
The VP daw should refrain from commenting about COVID-19 if she doesn't know anything of what's happening in Davao.
Ok.

Writer Jerry B. Grácio ridiculed the Davao City mayor for not accepting criticism. He even called her a “munting prinsesa.”

Politicking?
The VP’s camp rebuked Duterte-Carpio’s for the claim that Robredo’s comment was to politicize the matter.
Robredo’s spokesperson Atty. Barry Gutierrez explained that there was no political attack toward the Mayor. He highlighted the fact that Robredo only mentioned how Cebu handled its own surge, which Davao City should try and follow.
“So, I don’t see what the problem is. Why so defensive, why immediately jump to, ‘Let’s meet in the elections’?” Gutierrez said during an interview with ANC.
“Mayor Duterte has been saying she’s not running. Why all of a sudden she’s saying that ‘we should meet in the elections’? Is that an indirect way of saying that after all her protestations, she in fact is vying a run for president in 2022?” continued the Spokesperson.
Finally, Gutierrez dismissed the accusation of the Mayor since it was her tarpaulins that were installed in different parts of the country, not Robredo’s.
“After all, there are, you know, Run Sara Run posters all over the place.”
Meanwhile, Netizens and personalities also criticized the Presidential daughter for such a statement.
Jerry B. Grácio in a separate tweet noted that it was Duterte-Carpio’s posters that proliferated, but tells Robredo to stop politicking. Grácio stressed further that it was the Mayor who insisted that she will not run for President in the upcoming elections.

Vice President for the McBride PET Corp., Harvey Keh lambasted the Mayor’s understanding of Robredo’s comment.
Keh stressed that Duterte-Carpio’s tarpaulins are all over the country, and the Mayor dares to tell the VP to stop “politicking.”
Namumulitika raw? #BakunaHindiTarp

A Twitter personality also highlighted that Duterte-Carpio is a “hypocrite” for her “politicking” remark on Robredo.
The Mayor cannot make her constituents stop from roaming around the country for her Run Sara Run campaign amid the pandemic.
Also, it is the height of hypocrisy for Sara to say VP Leni’s suggestions were an attempt at politicking when she couldn’t even stop Davao’s current and former brgy officials from going around the country for the “Run Sara Run” mobilization during the peak of NCR+ COViD-19 cases. pic.twitter.com/g6iQfpRirF

Due to the increased testing in the city, the COVID-19 cases spiked–explained by the Davao City mayor.
