With his seven years of Philippine music career and international recognition, is Darren Espanto planning to break into the global music scene?
In an interview for his upcoming online concert, Darren Home Run: The Comeback Concert, the young male singer admitted that going global is one of his goals.
“I’d say isa po yun sa mga goals namin naman lahat kaming artists na one day ay ma-conquer din po yung international scene.”
As for his singing voice, he shared how happy he was that there wasn’t much change despite going through puberty.
“Definitely, a different Darren now in terms of sound if you compare it from the Darren nung the voice kids po. Pero, I’m just happy that you know my voice didn’t change too drastically. I’m still able to sing the songs that I used to sing before. If ever po, if kailangan talaga, we can always bring the key down.”
As for his maturity as a person, he shared that he’s calmer in accepting other people’s opinions.
“Pag, may topic ako na I disagree on, talagang gusto kong kalabanin kausap ko, eh. Hindi naman kalabanin, for example, if my opinion is different from my teams or my parents and stuff like that, I really have a lot to say.
“And now, I’ve really learned to take in their opinion first. Then, tsaka ko po ibibigay yung opinion ko in a calm manner.”
He also said he’s more independent now as an artist.
“I’d say mas independent na po ako in some ways. Kasi, mahirap din yung always depending on someone your whole life. Parati kang naka-rely sa ibang tao.”
As for his concert, he shared that they named it Home Run as an homage to his journey as an artist.
“It’s called Darren Home Run because, in the past 7 years, parang naikot ko na po lahat ng mga, like the bases in the concert scene and the music industry and in the Philippines. So it’s like yeah, I’ve hit a home run in this show.”
Darren has competed in singing competitions at the age of 10 outside of the Philippines. However, he gained popularity when he joined The Voice Kids Philippines in 2014 and became known as a performer since then.
The Darren Home Run: The Comeback Concert will stream online this June 19 (Saturday) with a rerun on June 20 (Sunday) via KTX.ph, iWantTFC, and TFC IPTV. Tickets are available on the said platforms with Php1599 for VIP access with a zoom party with Darren and Php699 for regular tickets.
