Kapamilya box-office director Cathy Garcia-Molina denied rumors that she left ABS-CBN and Star Cinema.
In an interview with Bandera‘s Reggee Bonoan, Direk Cathy directly answered questions about her status as a Kapamilya director.
According to the box-office director, there’s no truth to the rumor and said that she still has a contract with ABS-CBN’s film outfit Star Cinema and she cannot make any movies unless it is under Star Cinema or its co-production.
“Hindi po totoong wala na ako, may kontrata po ako sa kanila (Star Cinema).
“Hindi po ako gagawa ng movie sa labas unless co-prod po ng Star Cinema.”
Rumors about her leaving the Kapamilya network surfaced after she was seen in a viral photo with Willie Revillame, John Lloyd Cruz, and former Kapamilya directors Bobot Mortiz, and Bobet Vidanes.
Revillame, meanwhile, explained the backstory behind the viral photographs in one of Wowowin’s episodes. According to him, the picture is part of a commercial project that he is currently doing.
He said he was given the freedom to choose his director for the commercial and with her proven track record, he chose to work with Direk Cathy Garcia-Molina.
“I just want to thank all the (staff) kasi sa totoo lang sa kontratang pinirmahan ko, sabi ko kung puwede akong gumawa ng commercial na concept ko and I can choose my director and staff. In fairness, napakadali nilang kausap.
“Siyempre bilang endorser hindi ka ba papayag na maging maganda ang commercial mo? Kaya I chose the best director in the world kasi laging box office, si direktor Cathy Garcia Molina, maraming, salamat po,” the TV host said.
Direk Cathy is known for her box-office hits under ABS-CBN’s Star Cinema.
Some of her most popular works are Hello, Love, Goodbye with Alden Richards and Kathryn Bernardo (2019), The Hows of Us with Kathryn Bernardo and Daniel Padilla (2018), My Ex and Whys with Enrique Gil and Liza Soberano (2017), Four Sisters and a Wedding with Bea Alonzo, Toni Gonzaga, Shaina Magdayao and Angel Locsin (2013), and One More Chance and A Second Chance with John Lloyd Cruz and Bea Alonzo (2007, 2015).
