The Megastar failed to fly to Los Angeles, California after testing positive for COVID-19, making her miss a huge opportunity as an actress.
Together with her husband, Sen. Kiko Pangilinan, Sharon Cuneta took to an Instagram live to air her frustrations. According to the actress, she was supposed to be part of Jo-Koy’s film which was comprised of an all-Filipino cast.
Unfortunately, she had to cancel since she was falsely identified as Covid-19 positive.
According to Cuneta, her role was supposed to be Jo Koy’s supportive aunt in the film, which was adapted to the real-life story of the comedian’s life.
“I was coming to Hollywood to do my first Hollywood film, not for any platform, not for Netflix, but for cinematic release with premieres all over,” Cuneta revealed.
“Produced by Dan Lin who made ‘Aladdin,’ and the big boss, the one and only Steven Spielberg, the very first all-Filipino cast [that] I was so honored to be chosen to be part of.”
Since she was a legal resident in America, Cuneta was allowed to travel to the country. On May 18, she was supposed to fly to Los Angeles before heading to Canada where the filming is being held. And of course, she had to be tested. But to her disappointment, she tested positive.
“I was to fly to LA but when I had my swab in preparation for my flight to LA then to Canada where shooting will be held, I tested positive for COVID,” the singer revealed.
“I was so happy. Naka-pack na kami and I was going to announce to you the very next day,” said Cuneta who broke down in tears.
And when she received the news of her being positive for Covid, it crushed her heart. Cuneta even took seven more Covid-19 tests after the first test.
“After that supposed positive test, all the seven different labs tested me negative,” Sharon said. “That’s why I was so depressed. It was false positive and seven trusted labs tested me negative.”
“Nawalan ako ng malaking oportunidad na ’di na mababalik sa akin. Kahit gusto nila Jo Koy at director na nandoon pa rin ako, wala silang choice na ituloy ’yung movie,” the dismayed actress said.
When she failed to commit to her role because of an incorrect Covid test, Cuneta’s part was given to Tia Carrere, the voice actress behind Nani from “Lilo and Stitch.”
“When I couldn’t make it, she got the other lead role. It broke my heart. It really did because it was such an honor to be part of the very first all-Filipino production in Hollywood backed by a producer as big as Steven Spielberg.”
Cuneta continued, “I felt like dala-dala naming lahat ’yung bandila ng Pilipinas in the middle of all this Asian hate in America and some parts of the world … ’yun ang kina-break ng puso ko and pinabayaan ako ni Kiko magluksa.”
Cuneta then shared that her husband was very supportive and understanding of the situation she is currently in.
“I needed to go to America and just leave the country and make myself productive so I licked my wounds here,” she said. “Hindi na maibabalik sa ’kin ’yung oportunidad dahil lang sa isang pagkakamali sa COVID test kasi seven labs against one. Siguro naman tama ’yung seven.”

However, there is still light at the end of the tunnel for Cuneta. Her manager is constantly keeping her busy, with Zoom meetings and auditions left and right, thus explaining the need for the Megastar to stay in America for a while.
Also, with the tragic event that the actress had, she and her manager are now planning to create their own production company that is based in the US to let the world know more about the Filipino people.
