The Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) and the National Commission for Cultural Arts (NCCA) urged Filipinos to show their support in voting for the Filipino pop group SB19 to become 2021 Billboard Music Awards (BBMAs) Top Social Artist this year.
SB19 is the first-ever ‘P-pop’ boy group to be nominated in BMMA’s.
For the Filipino music industry, this marks a milestone in international nominations, hence the nomination is considered to be a matter of cultural pride.
In separate social media updates, CCP and NCCA vowed to support SB19. These government agencies called on Filipinos to cast their votes for the P-pop group on the final nomination week.
On May 17, NCCA promoted SB19 who is a mainstay of the annual Philippines-Korea Cultural Exchange Festival. Their post was shared on its facebook page.
CCP also encouraged Filipinos to show their support for the P-pop group.
The post read: “For the first time in history, a Philippine act/artist has been nominated in the Billboard Music Awards (BBMA) under the Top Social Artist award category. SB19, the first-ever P-pop group to be trained in the Korean idol system, is in superstar company, running for the award alongside K-pop phenomena BTS and Blackpink, including Korea’s Seventeen, and the USA’s Ariana Grande.
“It is with deep pride that we support SB19 for their nomination in this prestigious event.
SB19 is consists of five male members namely: Pablo, Josh, Stell, Ken, and Justin. They will compete for the title against Ariana Grande, BTS, Blackpink, and Seventeen.
Through the years, SB19 has slowly found its niche and established a solid ground in the P-pop industry, paving the way for other Filipino artists to follow suit.
Catch the group’s performance on Padayon: The NCCA Hour later this month.
Global voting is ongoing and will close on May 21. The announcement of winners is on May 23 during the BMMA show and streaming live from Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, USA.
