International Singer Jake Zyrus reacted to the rape-slay case of transman Ebeng Mayor.
In a press conference for the music video release of his single, Fix Me, Zyrus expressed how upset he is about what happened to Mayor.
“I don’t really know what to say. Kasi nakita ko yung gruesome photos. I’m sorry, but I always think about na wala nang takot yung ibang tao. What upsets me is, I don’t know if it’s true, like best friend nya. That really hurts me. He trusted someone.”
He also shared his realization about protecting one’s self.
“Wala nang makakabalik na sa kanya, but I really hope na maging lesson din sa iba. One of the main realization doon ay yung mga pinakikisamahan nating mga tao. Alam nyo yung hindi pa rin ako masyadong masaya na nahuli yung mga suspects.”
May 20, the police found the transman Mayor brutally mutilated, raped, and murdered, classifying the case as a disturbing hate crime. Since then, the police have apprehended three suspects, of which are his closest friends.
As for Zyrus, he released the single Fix Me on May 7. It depicts a man struggling to accept love because he believes that his love interest deserves better. The single itself presents traces of mental health issues such as self-deprecation and depression.
Fil-Am music director Troy Laureta produced Fix Me with ABS-CBN Music International to showcase Filipino artistry throughout the globe. Grammy-winning composer Kenneth Mackey, Swedish singer-songwriter Andreas Moss, and American record producer Joshua Bronleewe collaborated to compose and write the song.
