GMA Network CEO Felipe Gozon answered questions regarding the possibility of an ABS-CBN and GMA Network partnership.
During the annual company shareholder meeting, Gozon revealed that while there were no talks or proposals yet for a block time agreement with ABS-CBN, GMA Network specifically its subsidiary channel GTV is not closing doors for a possible partnership in the future.
“Being open for ABS artists has nothing to do with being open to a block time arrangement with ABS-CBN.
“But the situation right now is that there is no talk, there is no proposal, there is nothing to consider, but we are not closing the door.
“Every proposal that will come our way will be seriously evaluated.”
After the Kapamilya network’s shutdown due to NTC’s cease-and-desist order and the subsequent denial of their franchise application by the Cayetano-led 70-congressmen, ABS-CBN has entered into block time deals with two TV networks–A2Z and TV5.
It was in October 2020 when ABS-CBN shows started to air over A2Z Channel 11. While many have thought that it was the last card of the Kapamilya network, but the TV industry was shocked when TV5 and ABS-CBN announced their collaboration in January 2021–giving way for ASAP and FPJ: Da King’s entry to free TV.
It was then followed by an expanded partnership in March, which included ABS-CBN’s primetime bida teleseryes.
Meanwhile, GMA Network’s current and only block timer is TAPE Inc. which owned the country’s longest-running noontime show, Eat Bulaga!
