Director Darryl Yap, Jerald Napoles, Kim Molina defended the cleft palate character “Ngongo” in the upcoming movie, Ang Babaeng Walang Pakiramdam.
In the media conference for the Viva Films movie, Director Yap said, “I’m just assuring the public that I am showcasing the character of Ngongo via Jerald, with pure sensitivity, respect, and utmost concern with the way they are living their lives.”
As for Napoles, who portrayed the Ngongo himself, he said he would speak out if he saw a problem with the portrayal of the character in the movie.
“Ako mismo kung may problema sa character na to at sa pagiging ehemplo ko sa pag portray sa character na to at kung ano man yung maaring maging impormasyon, o pananaw na maaring ibigay nito sa mga manonood, ako mismo yung magrereklamo.”
As for the lead actress, Molina said they would not have accepted the project if it ridicules people, noting that Napoles and Molina have friends who are people with disabilities.
“Hindi naman po kami tatanggap ng project ng alam po namin magriridicule, you know other people or would mean bad. Ako rin po kasi kapag may gagawa ng masama, or someone would ridicule my friends also. Ipagtatanggol ko talaga.”
