In the story conference for her upcoming movie Nerisa, beauty queen-turned-Viva artist Cindy Miranda reacted to her launch as the next sex symbol. She said that she wants to prove her talent as an actress.
“Sana ‘wag lang akong ma-tag as a sexy actress, of course, from Binibining Pilipinas to pag-aarte, gusto ko rin mapatunayan na mayroon ding arte.”
However, being an object of men’s fantasy is a compliment for her.
“For me, yung pantasya hindi naman bastos sa akin. Pinapantasya ka nila kasi ikaw yung ideal na babae sa kanila. So for me, compliment po iyon.”
She also reacted to those people equating her sexy image on the screen into her personal life.
“Ang isang matalinong tao, alam n’ya yung kaibahan ng totoong pagkatao nung artista sa inaarte nya. So ako naman po, wala akong problema kung may ibang mga tao na feeling nila yung nakikita nila sa screen ikaw yun.”
Veteran actress Elizabeth Oropesa shared advice about nudity in films with Miranda and other young actresses involved in Nerisa.
“Wag ninyong isipin yung paghuhubad ay isang bagay na hindi maganda ang paroroonan, o tingin ng tao. Because that never happened to me.”
Oropesa then expressed the importance of honing their craft as actors.
“We never really thought of ourselves na sex symbols. Basta we do our best. And yung acting, yun ang pinakaimportante. Tama yun, kasi pag-aralan mo talaga, galingan mo talaga. Ilagay mo yung pagkatao mo sa role mo.”
Miranda, crowned as Binibining Pilipinas-Tourism International in 2013, is known for her roles in La Luna Sangre, Maria, Adan, and Ang Pambansang Third-Wheel.
Miranda top-bills the upcoming Viva film, Nerisa, under the direction of Lawrence Fajardo.
The cast also includes Aljur Abrenica as the male lead with AJ Raval, Guji Lorenzana, Sean de Guzman, Sheree Bautista, Gwen Garci, Bembol Roco, and Oropesa. Nerisa began filming on May 26.
