Samantha Angelene Cruz Montano who goes by the screen name, Sam Cruz, has finally followed the footsteps of her celebrity parents–Cesar Montano and Sunshine Cruz.
During the virtual press conference for The Squad Plus, Sam shared how she got influenced by her parents to enter showbusiness.
According to her, since childhood, she already was interested in her parents’ work, even watching how they act on small and big screens.
Sam even said that she wanted to follow in her parents’ footsteps.
“When I was younger, I want to try being an action star. Then I was like I want to try drama like my mom. My parents were the ones who inspired me to follow in their footsteps,” shared the 18-year-old singer.
Entering Showbusiness.
Sam always wanted to know what it’s like to be an artist. This may be because of her parents. But she only entered showbusiness when she reached 18 years of age.
Her mother is guiding them, Sam shared that Sunshine wanted some proof that she is finally ready to enter the industry, that she is mature enough to handle being an artist.
“I always wanted to try what’s it like to be in showbiz. Pero ngayon lang kasi she feels like this is the age that we are ready, that we have enough knowledge to step foot sa showbiz.
“Kasi if ever I joined showbiz if I was like 15, that would be too young. So she feels like I was ready. I have to show na I’m ready, like I had to actually work for it.”
As Sunshine Cruz and Cesar Montano’s daughter.
Being the daughter of two celebrities, all eyes are on her.
However, Sam understood that once she enters this kind of industry, she will have to deal with controversies that come along. Her parents told her to learn how to respond and act when facing issues.
“My mom and my dad have always told me to know how to respond and how to act on it. But ever since I was little, I was told to think before you speak,” said Sam.
And before sharing her personal opinion regarding certain matters, she always thinks it through.
“So if ever I stumble across an issue, I always have to think, and know the background story to everything before I give an opinion to avoid problems and issues.”
The Pros and Cons of being a Celebrity Daughter.
Sam felt that it’s an advantage to be a celebrity daughter since her connections have given her a lot of amazing projects to work with. ABS-CBN got her through her mom.
“It’s an advantage ‘coz I get to be in a lot of amazing projects and have like a headstart. Like Squad Plus, they contacted my mom, and they found out about me through my mom, which is a big advantage for me.”
And since she is a showbiz royalty, people will be looking out for her. Meaning, there would be watchful eyes, following her every move. People will compare her abilities to her parents and with her siblings.
“I also feel like it would also be a disadvantage ‘coz everyone will be having their eyes on you. And they might compare me to like my parents. And also I have two other siblings, they could also compare me to them.”
For the bashers, Sam only thinks of them as her motivation to better her craft.
“For the bashers who usually judge me and my sisters based on my parents, you set us to motivate me to be even better, to be my own self.”
Sam’s Mom Sunshine Cruz has the Biggest Impact on Her.
Having two seasoned artists as parents, Sam admitted that her mother made a huge impact on her personality.
“When it comes to looks, I’m a mix of both. That’s what they say.
“Pero when it comes to my attitude, probably my mom,” said Sam.
The reason is that since she and her mother are super close, she mimics her mom.
“Kasi super close kami ng mom ko. And we always spend time together. I’m starting to act like her na din.”
Being a mother of three, Sunshine is protective of her daughters. Sam revealed that her mother would always react whenever someone is treating them unfairly.
“She really is like a fighter. She has this mindset na if someone is wrong, and someone is not treating you right, you have to act on it. You can’t just let people treat you that way.
“She’s there to support us, and to fight for us. And she’s always been that way ever since. Which is one of the things we all love about her.”
What are Her Fears?
Sam shared what she fears the most is not having her loved ones.
“Kasi simply without them, I wouldn’t know what to do. ‘Coz they’ve been there for me all the way. And like my mom, she was always there to support me and us, three sisters. My mom is super duper strong. She raised us like her whole life, on her own, as a single parent. So seeing her gone, would crush me.”
That is why when Sunshine contracted Covid-19, she got scared.
“Once we found out na nagka-Covid siya, we’re all very sad about it. And we just hope for the best. Pero naka-isolate siya for like two weeks. To really support her and show our love, we would text her, call her, and Facetime,” shared Sam.
“I got scared kasi she got it from work. We don’t know how to react at first.”
Sam currently is part of the newest group–The Gold Squad. With the group, she explores showbiz as a singer and eventually tries her hand in acting.
