With the changes brought by the pandemic, other networks have sought after Star Magic Workshop trainees because of their talents.
In the virtual press conference for the Star Magic Workshops for 2021, Star Magic Head of Artist Training and Workshops, Director Rahyan Carlos, responded to a question about other networks looking for Star Magic trainees because of their talent and training.
Carlos clarified that he does not believe in network wars. However, he confirmed that he has trainees from other networks (GMA Network, TV 5) who are landing jobs and winning awards.
“In terms of training actors, I don’t believe in network wars kasi, eh. So, I have actors also from the other network that I trained. And, they’re landing jobs and winning awards as well.”
He also added that he believes that there shouldn’t be network wars when it comes to training. He also advises his students to not compete with fellow Filipinos but compete with the world.
“Ako, I believe there shouldn’t be any network wars when it comes to training. Lahat tayo nagtutulungan. Lahat tayo, kasi I always tell my students, ‘You don’t compete with your co-Filipinos: you compete with the world. You compete with the Japanese: you compete with the Koreans: you compete with the Thai: you compete with the Americans but not with co-Filipinos.’ Tulungan po tayo.”
As for the talents who transfered to different networks, or management arms, Carlos said he is proud of them regardless of whichever network they join.
He values that the trainees carry what they learned from the Star Magic Workshops.
“Kung lumipat man ng network, lumipat man ng management, show business is all about creating credible and entertaining shows. So, trabaho yun eh. Lalo na ngayong pandemic, So ako, I’m proud of them. Pag nagkakatrabaho sila regardless of saan man pong network mapunta. Ang napakaimportante is yung dala-dala nila yung training na tinuro ko at tinuro namin.”
Carlos also added that they didn’t stop the workshops despite the pandemic and the network shutdown.
“I always tell my students, never naman po kaming tumigil sa pagwoworkshop. Kasi ang Star Magic at ang ABS-CBN, buhay na buhay po.”
Carlos also believes that actors hone their craft, especially now that productions have adapted the locked-in filming practice to combat COVID-19.
