What the most recent edition of the hit reality series, Pinoy Big Brother proved, is that it remains a potent venue for emerging artists to thrive, even after ABS-CBN’s free television shut down, and the pandemic, whose challenges made the entire entertainment industry, practically stagnant.
How PBB Connect hurdled ABS-CBN’s limited free tv presence, in its bid to discover new faces that would soon take the spotlight, may be attributed to the fact that many viewers have shifted to digital platforms in getting their fill of local and foreign entertainment, since the onset of the pandemic. The ongoing consumer migration from traditional television to streaming platforms has undoubtedly opened doors for production houses and aspiring stars. As web series becomes an extremely popular format, many production companies took the chance in bringing new content and new stories to the growing online demographic.
ABS-CBN took the chance of turning this new trend in its favor, strengthening its bid to dominate the digital space by making much of its produced content available to online viewers. Alongside this effort, is tapping emerging social media platforms to intensify new viewing experiences for its audiences, who mostly migrated from free television to streaming platforms. Among those social media platforms, is Kumu, which was largely recognized for its participation in bringing PBB back to Kapamilya viewers.
With the conclusion of PBB Connect, the attention now shifts to the ex-housemates who are now each taking their shot at making it big in show business. Much of this attention, however, is on team-ups, HaiRon, RalphElla, and KoDrea, whose formation was largely made possible by their fans, who followed their journey from their stay inside the PBB house, to the continuation of their pursuit to make a name for themselves, without Kuya’s direction. As it was to many similar onscreen team-ups that came before them, the fighting chance of these emerging PBB love teams maybe largely relying on the level of support they will continue to receive from their fans. Which among Hairon, RalphElla, and KoDrea, has the biggest shot at making it big? It’s time for you to decide.
HaiRon (Haira Palaguitto and Kyron Aguilera)
Two of the youngest housemates of the current PBB season, Haira Palaguitto and Kyron Aguilera’s lovely connection, and potential as an emerging loveteam, gained more attention after they both exited the house. A launching project, say an iWantTFC series, for example, sounds a perfect vehicle for this team-up to soar.
Both Palaguitto and Aguilera are taken aback by their fast-growing fan support, and while they both claim they may likely remain as friends, the possibility of seeing them working on a project together, and as a love team, is something fans will be screaming at the top of their lungs for.
KoDrea (Kobie Brown and Andrea Abaya)
Given their beautiful chemistry while they are still inside the PBB House, it’s hard to accept ABS-CBN may take a pass on giving KoDrea a shot, as a new love team. Kobie’s pleasant Amboy profile perfectly fits Andrea who reminds us of the likes of Heaven Peralejo, Kisses Delavin, and Elisse Joson, who all made names for themselves after their PBB exit. To give them a loveteam project seems to be just the right choice, after completing their stint as Kuya’s housemates.
Both Brown and Abaya seem accommodating of the possibility of their team-up getting to a higher level. Brown, himself, admitted that he is more than ready to embrace the love team and work with Abaya, in projects that would feature their team-up.
RalphElla (Ralph Malibunas and Ella Cayabyab)
Fans may be a bit confused about which of the girl housemates Ralph is smitten with, but his inherent chemistry with Quezon Province-native and fellow housemate, Ella Cayabyab, is undeniably sending more fans into kilig frenzy. ABS-CBN management must take a cue on the unofficial love team’s strong following, should they hope to create a strong love team out of PBB Connect housemates.
Both Malibunas and Cayabyab maintain growing fans for themselves, but excitement for them getting officially made as a love team via a project, seems to make fans anticipate more, than seeing them doing individual projects, let alone with other partners. With the amount of support they are currently getting as a love team, it’s extremely difficult to believe that ABS-CBN will just take a hard pass at RalphElla.
