Actress Dimples Romana throughout her years of being in the showbiz industry has proven that people will always remember an artist through their roles.
This was revealed during LionhearTV’s exclusive interview with her. Netizens and her fans have remembered her roles in the shows that she assumed.
When asked about how she felt when people still call her by her previous roles, Dimples revealed her secret on how people remember her portrayals.
It was all about how she makes sure that every character she plays would touch people’s hearts. No matter what kind of roles she is portraying, whether it be a protagonist or an antagonist, she ensures that the audience could identify with her characters.
The actress had set her mind that artists are “basically freelancers”.
So in every project she does, she treats it as if it’s her “audition for the next job.”
“Ang thinking ko kasi, dahil marami kaming artista, maraming pwedeng pagpilian. So gusto ko, sa bawat trabahong ginagawa ko, I treat it as if it’s my audition for my next job. Para sure ako na may trabaho after ng teleserye na yun.
“And that will happen if no matter how small my role is, no matter how I feel it is irrelevant to the whole story of the teleserye, will still remain memorable. Kasi that’s how I get to keep my job,” said Dimples.
“So I just want to make sure na kahit maliit yung character ko, binibigyan ko ng atensyon. Kasi yun yung kabuhayan ko.”
Tracking back her career, she started as a supporting role, characters that didn’t have a name in a project, a nobody. But her journey and work ethic made her close to almost all artists she ever worked with. That is why whenever she becomes friends with her co-workers, she welcomes them with open arms, the same thing they did to her in the set.
“None of my friends ever looked at me na mas malaki ang role nila sakin. Walang ganun. Wala akong naramdamang ganun. I always felt very welcome. And at the same way, I welcome them into my home.
“That’s the reason why my friends have been my friends for the longest time. And they share my joys, they share my sufferings, I call them when I’m sad or happy. Kasi at the end of the day, kahit na artista kami, we’re all still people. And you realize na may trabaho ka man ngayon, sikat ka man ngayon, hindi kayo sikat, magkakaibigan kayo,” said Dimples.
Even her “anak-anakan” tends to call her just to say hello. Kathryn Bernardo even called her just to ask how to make chili-crab, which Kathryn could google. But she instead called Dimples, which she appreciates. Even Julia Montes, Angel Locsin, and Bea Alonzo who are among the biggest stars in the industry take some time to talk to her. That’s what communication does in relationships.
“We remained friends with one another kasi we embraced each other not as celebrities nor co-actors, but as friends. Sabay-sabay kaming tumanda at lumaki sa industriya na naging mabuti samin.”
“So siguro ang pinaka-secret when keeping the relationships fresh and thriving even after many decades is connection. Just simple communication and it’s really just messaging one another. Dapat walang puwang sa hiya kasi magkakaibigan kayo. We also support one another,” she added.
But of course, Dimples cannot please everyone, even those she works with. Still, the actress decided to ignore such thinking and instead focus on all the good things.
“Hindi ako ganung klaseng tao. Everybody knows na I really appreciate everybody. And I always look into the good of everyone. Kasi it’s a common rule sa atin.
“Kaya kung meron man, malamang sa malamang sobrang oblivious ko. And also, I’m busy as a person, as a mom, as an employer, as a business owner. Kaya hindi ako nagkakaron ng puwang para mag-isip ng ganung klaseng judgment,” shared Dimples.
Aside from being an actress, Dimples is also a business owner. She recently opened a restaurant in Singapore called, Alegria Singapura. Her goal in setting up a restaurant to spread happiness to Filipinos working especially in Singapore, making them feel closer to home.
