Director Darryl Yap loves actress Kim Molina. Both are from the same industry–the performing arts.
Molina, the #Jowable star revealed why the director adores her during the virtual press conference for the Vivamax Middle East launch.
She said that since they both came from theatre, the appreciation from one another was their sign of respect.
“Pareho kaming galing theatre. So I think pareho kami ng pinagdaanan when it comes to theatre kasi aktor din siya. Ganun kasi kami sa teatro. Lahat kami ay hanga sa talento ng mga tao sa teatro,” Molina shared.
The actress and the director first worked together in the movie, #Jowable where she became a breakout star.
But her awe of the 34-year-old director grew even more when they were working in the short film series Kung Pwede Lang. Molina even admitted that it was her first time seeing a director who gives all his actors the freedom to do whatever they want on the set.
“Nung ginawa ko yung KPL with him (Darryl), sobrang nakakabilib nyang magsulat. Yung first time kong maka-encounter ng isang direktor na bibigyan ka ng 100% freedom ng kahit anong gusto mo as an artist. Itutok nya lang sayo yung camera at itutok yung script,” she said.
But there was one problem: Darryl, whenever he trusts his talents, would sometimes make them do improvisations—on the spot.
“Si Direk Darryl kasi pag merong naisip… sobra kasing tiwala siya sa mga artista niya… pero pag sobrang tiwala niya sa artista niya, pag may naisip siya, isasama nya on the spot! So bahala ka sa buhay mo, isipin mo,” Molina revealed.
That is why Molina was challenged when she did the movie, Ang Babaeng Walang Pakiramdam along with her boyfriend, Jerald Napoles.
“Ang hirap kayang umarte ng walang pakiramdam. Ano siya, very technical,” Molina admitted.
However, despite being one of her toughest roles, Molina was glad she got the part. Since her role in the movie brought nostalgia.
“Pero isa siya sa pinakamasayang characters na nagawa ko. Masaya na nakakakilig bilang aktor from theatre. Kasi ganun kami sa theatre, aaralin mo talaga yung pasikut-sikot ng script. Tapos si Direk Darryl pa ang nagsulat.”
With the director adding some unexpected twist during filming, Molina was glad that Darryl has that kind of method.
“Ganun siya pero kasi ganun ang training namin sa theatre. So ako natuwa naman ako dun kasi ganun yung training ko sa theatre tapos ganun si Da (Darryl).”
Molina starred in #Jowable, which was written and directed by Yap himself. The movie, which was released in 2019 tells the story of how Elsa (Molina) finds love. This was the first mainstream film of Darryl.
He jumped out of being a social media content creator to becoming a director.
And now that Vivamax is launching its newest application, which is Vivamax Middle East, Filipinos living in the UAE (United Arab Emirates) can now watch Molina’s movies straight from their phone.
It also features classic movies such as Darna, Ang Probinsyano, and new hits like Kung Pwede Lang, and Tililing.
Vivamax Middle East is available for download via Google Play Store and the App Store.
