After confusing Lapulapu with Magellan, Jolo Revilla apologized on social media.
On Tuesday, the Cebu commemorated the 500th anniversary of the Battle of Mactan. It is where Lapulapu and his warriors defeated the Spanish force and killing the Portuguese explorer Ferdinand Magellan.
Magellan organized the Spanish expedition to the East Indies from 1519 to 1522. It resulted in the first circumnavigation of the Earth, which got completed after his death in the Philippines.
But this year’s celebration exposed Revilla’s confusion of Lapulapu and Magellan.
In a now-deleted post on facebook, Revilla joined in commemorating the bravery of the Filipino ancestors. However, he sent his salutations to Ferdinand Magellan, whom he even labeled as a hero, instead of Lapulapu.

As a Filipino, especially as a politician, it is a bare minimum that Revilla should know about this history.
Revilla eventually apologized for the blunder. However, he blamed an intern of his social media team, who posted it without first clearing it.

Netizens believe that the apology would be better if he took full responsibility for the post since it got posted under his official facebook page.

Hindi ata aware si kuya dun sa term na "command responsibility". Nakakatakot yan walang sense of ownership.

It's your account. Regardless if you have an admin or not to manage it, take ownership. That's what a true leader does. Not finding someone to pin the blame on.

Your team reflects you, sir. This is very basic Philippine history information. This is a big NO, NO. Parang covid 14 error lang yan. Sana bago ilabas, ipost o basahin nirereview nyo muna.

It would have been better if the apology did not place the blame on the intern.

Some even compared him to his parents, especially to his controversial father, Bong Revilla.
Ayos, may scapegoat din kagaya ng ama. 🙂

The Battle of Mactan occurred on April 27, 1521.
In 2017, President Rodrigo Duterte declared the said date as “Lapulapu Day” to honor the hero’s bravery.
