Kapuso actor Jason Abalos was among the 16 million voters who voted for President Rodrigo Duterte. Now that the President has proven that his promises were empty, Abalos, a former DDS, got fed up, regretting he even voted Duterte.
Abalos’ latest tweet, he apologized to the Filipinos for voting for Duterte.
Abalos once believed Duterte’s promises. It can be recalled that the President, during his Presidential campaign, made promises and assured the public to eradicate drugs, corruption, within six months.
“In 3 to 6 months, I will stop drugs. I will stop criminality. Then I will stop corruption,” promised Duterte during his Presidential campaign.
However, Duterte did not stay true to his promises. He failed to adhere to his plan to erase drugs, corruption, and criminality. But what he did after was to extend his promise to yet another six months.
Then after failing to fulfill it once again, on February, April 16, Duterte stated that it is impossible to exterminate corruption.
“As I have promised the nation, I said I would dedicate the last remaining months of my stay in the Office of the President going after corrupt people. So that by the time na ano, maminus-minus na,” said Duterte.
“I cannot — do not expect me to entirely clean as a pristine clean the bureaucracy. That is impossible and cannot really be achievable.”
Also, during the dispute between the Philippines and China over the West Philippine Sea, Duterte, who was still a Presidential aspirant made a bold declaration last 2016. He said that although he will not engage China in a shooting war, he will ride a jet ski to Spratlys Island and plant a flag in it.
“I will ask the navy to bring me to the nearest boundary dyan sa Spratly – Scarborough. Bababa ako, sasakay ako ng jet ski, dala-dala ko yung flag ng Pilipino at pupunta ako doon sa airport nila tapos itanim ko, then I would say, ‘This is ours and do what you want with me.’ Bahala na kayo,” said Duterte.
Once again, Duterte retracted against his previous promise. It became a “publicity stunt” as, during an interview, the then Davao mayor took back his word.
“It was a hyperbole… You cannot expect me to ride (a jet ski), I don’t even know how to swim,” said Duterte during an interview with Al Jazeera a few months after winning the Presidency.
Moreover, he admitted in July 2020 that he is inutile when it comes to stopping China’s aggression on the disputed waters.
“Inutil ako dyan and I’m willing to admit it. Talagang inutil ako d’yan, walang magawa,” said Duterte during his public address.
With the rift between China and the Philippines over the islands and reefs along the West Philippine Sea, the former added fuel to the fire by poaching at least 260 tons in the disputed water. But Duterte in his latest statement regarding the matter said that there is nothing he could do even if he went over to the WPS.
“Maski na ilang balik natin dun wala mangyayari because we are not in the possession of the sea… Even if you go there and claim it, walang mangyayari, kanila talaga eh, sa isip nila kanila,” said Duterte during his televised briefing on Monday, April 20.
According to Abalos, he got swayed by Duterte’s promises that he can change the country, hence he voted for him.
“Isa ako sa mga bumoto dito. Patawarin niyo ako mga kababayan ko, ang gusto ko lang naman ay pagbabago,” wrote Abalos on his twitter.

Recently, he took a jab at Duterte for his statement “maliit na bagay” amid the rise of COVID-19 cases in the Philippines.
Abalos scrutinized the President as the World Health Organization (WHO) expressed its concern regarding the Philippines’ nearing the red-line—indication that the COVID cases in the country have exceeded the capacity of healthcare institutions.
Jason Abalos is part of the upcoming GMA Network drama series, Las Hermanas alongside returning Kapuso Albert Martinez. The show also stars Yasmien Kurdi, Thea Tolentino, and Faith da Silva.
