Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) Secretary Teodoro “Teddy Boy” Locsin Jr. came to actress-philanthropist Angel Locsin’s defense, following the death of a 67-year-old man named Rolando Dela Cruz at a community pantry that the Kapamilya star organized on Friday, April 23.
In celebration of Locsin’s 36th birthday (the same date with the community pantry setup), she organized a community pantry in her locality despite the existing risk of red-tagging.
The residents of Barangay Holy Spirit, Quezon City were the intended recipients of the food bank for distribution.
Some Netizens blamed the actress for her failure to organize the event well, which they claimed led to the death of the senior citizen.
However, DFA Secretary Locsin noted that the actress is not to be blamed for the tragedy because she only tried to feed the hungry.
No forgiveness needed; at least she tried to feed them; one was so starved and weak she couldn’t feed him in time. Blame those who don’t do what she and others like her—like my friends from the very start of the pandemic—are trying to do: feed the hungry and not their egos. https://t.co/rrOqxsoq6W

The late Rolando Dela Cruz fainted while standing in line to receive goods and was rushed to East Avenue Medical Center but arrived dead.
In a separate tweet, the DFA Secretary lauded Locsin for her good intentions in organizing the community pantry. But he warned the actress to keep away from political advisers.
You meant well. Road to hell is not paved w/ good intentions; that’s the excuse of animals whose intentions are always bad but know the road to hell well because they came from there. But keep away from Filipino political advisers; they are born stupid. Same advice for my side. https://t.co/rrOqxsoq6W

Meanwhile, Locsin shared the announcement from the Quezon City government encouraging those who went to her community pantry showing COVID-19 symptoms to get free swab testing.
“According to CESU chief Dr. Rolando Cruz, residents who are showing COVID-19 symptoms such as flu and cough after going to yesterday’s event at the Titanium Bldg., Brgy. Holy Spirit need to come forward and have themselves checked,” she wrote in the captions.
