Kapuso star David Licauco said that he feels lucky because of his Korean looks and aims to capitalize on the K-Drama trend.
In the media conference event for kilig-filled GMA Teleserye, Heartful Café, Licauco shared, “Kasi yun nga yung medyo theme nung teleserye. Nowadays, sobrang uso yung mga BTS. Everybody’s crazy about it. Siguro, swerte na medyo ganon yung itsura ko. So I think it’s a good time for me to capitalize it.”
Licauco, with his Chinese descent, often gets compared with Korean personalities on social media.
With his “chinito” heartthrob vibes, he placed first runner-up in Mr. and Ms. Chinatown, a pageant for Filipino-Chinese (TsiNoy) men and women in 2014.
Heartful Café director Mark Sicat dela Cruz also weighed in the K-Drama aesthetics of their teleserye.
He admitted that one of his pegs for the show leans towards K-Dramas. Dela Cruz referred K-Dramas such as Start-Up and Its Okay to Not Be Okay.
“Aaminin ko po nag-isip ako ng peg. Or, sumilip ako ng mga Koreanovelas like Start-Up tsaka Its Okay to Not Be Okay. Hindi po kasi ako Koreanovela fan eh. So triny ko lang. What if gawin kong Koreanovela yung peg?”
Perhaps, in an industry that’s mostly dominated by mestizo celebrities–and was never a ‘guwapo’ heartthrob in high school or college, Licauco admitted once in an interview that he was shy. His personality easily stood out.
He even said that his looks may be an advantage because K-pop is super big right now. He’s being compared to Korean singer-rapper, Seventeen’s S.Coups Choi Seungcheol.
In GMA, he appeared in series like–Mulawin vs Ravena, Kapag Nahati ang Puso, and TODA One I Love. He had a launching film with Shaira Diaz as his leading lady via Because I Love You.
David Licauco and Julie Anne San Jose star in GMA Network’s newest romantic comedy teleserye Heartfelt Cafe. They are joined by EA Guzman, Victor Anastacio, Ayra Mariano, Angel Guardian, and newcomers Zonia Mejia and Jamir Zabarte.
The series airs on April 26, right after First Yaya, on GMA Network and GMA Heart of Asia.
