Following the block time agreement with ABS-CBN and Zoe Broadcasting which brings to life A2Z Channe 11. Many have expected that A2Z will become one of the viable players in Philippine TV.
Before the agreement, Zoe 11, has been out of the rating radar primarily because of its “un-competitive” programming line-up.
Although they’ve made a shot when they are still under GMA Network’s GMA News TV, it again died down when GNTV bolted out of the block time deal and leave Zoe on its own again in 2019.
Now that Kapamilya shows are airing on A2Z, it is one great factor to compete in the rating game knowing how loyal Kapamilya viewers followed ABS-CBN shows on whatever platform they are shown.
But almost 6 months after the deal, why is A2Z continues to lag?
Aside from the obvious small reach nationwide, one of the reasons why A2Z is having a hard time penetrating more households is its programming line-up.
Program schedule is one big part in cornering viewers’ attention specially pre-programming of the more popular shows.
Currently, A2Z’s ace is FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano which luckily is consistent within the 7 to 10th place.
But with the popularity of this Coco Martin-starrer teleserye, it is expected to rate higher having been lording the ratings board when ABS-CBN is still operating on free TV.
It’s quite good to note that previously FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano is preceded by another ratings hitter TV Patrol. Filipino viewers are used to watching primetime news before their much-awaited teleseryes.
Unfortunately, A2Z’s pre-programming to FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano is its movie block which leaves GMA Network and GTV at the advantage since they have 24 Oras.
TV Patrol is currently airing only on Kapamilya Channel and Kapamilya Online Live. That’s why it is unlikely for other loyal Kapamilya viewers to switch from the cable and online channel to A2Z since Kapamilya Channel and Kapamilya Online Live also airs all ABS-CBN teleseryes that follows TV Patrol.
So to better compete, A2Z should rethink its programming line-up if they want to get a better share of the rating pie.
