Toni Gonzaga revealed that she previously had her doubts before she moved to ABS-CBN. She thought that her stay with the network will be short-lived as her bashers claimed.
As the 37-year-old actress-host celebrated her 20th anniversary in the showbiz industry, she admitted that her move to the Kapamilya network received backlash from the people who said that she became ambitious.
“Unang lipat ko sa ABS, kaya ako emotional, kasi I got so many comments and statements na, ‘Malalaos na ‘yan. Hindi pa man din sisikat, malalaos na ‘yan. Ambisyosa siya,’” she said in an interview with Boy Abunda in “I Feel.”
Gonzaga said that she initially planned to save some money throughout her stay in ABS-CBN as she didn’t think she would last in the network.
“Nung lumipat ako, sabi ko mag-iipon ako. For one year ‘yun. Wala ng ibang offer sa other network. Ninamnam ko ‘yun lahat kasi one year lang ako,” she said.
She said that she was unsure of her transfer to ABS-CBN saying:
“I was really on edge, telling myself na baka mag-jump ship ko after a year or two. Siguro tapos na ‘yung karera ko because of what I did and also because of feeling ko ang daming nagsasabi sa ‘kin walang mangyayari sa ‘yo. So naprogram ko yung sarili ko, ‘Sige mag-iipon na lang ako.’”
Meanwhile, when she was asked about her upcoming film, which is a Filipino adaptation of the Korean romantic-comedy “My Sassy Girl”, she said that the project was a blessing to her especially as she celebrates her 2 decades in the show business.
“The project came to me unexpectedly. That was a point na I surrendered my dream na ‘yan, 2006 ‘yun. In your mind na baka ma-revive mo ‘yan. Ilang K-drama adaptations na sinabihan ako, pero hindi natuloy,” said Gonzaga.
“‘Pag nakikita ko ‘yung rushes, [naiisip ko], what a way din to celebrate your 20 years in the business. When your heart is really is in the proper place, darating pa rin ‘yung mga blessings,” she added.
