Starstruck alumni Shayne Sava and Abdul Raman discussed polygamy in the Islam religion. According to the two, their upcoming teleserye, Legal Wives, will clear-up any misconception about the Muslim culture.
Shayne admitted that before the teleserye, she had misconceptions about the culture. She then added the details she learned through the teleserye that helped her understand the Muslim culture better and religions that practice polygamy.
“Kasi pag sinabi po nating polygamy parang its wrong sa Catholic, so nung una po parang iniisip ko mali talaga sya nun. Tapos nung in-explain na po sa min nung brinefing na po kami. Dun ko po nalaman na it’s not just about love po eh. Di lang po sya tungkol dun eh. Marami pa po palang factors or reasons kung bakit nagpapakasal ang mga Muslim, or iba pong mga religion na nagpa-practice ng polygamy,” said Shayne.
As for Abdul, as a Muslim actor, he highlighted what he knows about polygamy in the Islam faith. He said that they have a choice to practice polygamy. He also added that there are certain circumstances men need to meet before practicing polygamy.
Finally, he highlights that their upcoming series will educate others and remove discrimination against those who practice the Islam faith.
“As a Muslim, myself, raised in a Muslim country, as well, and Arabian pa nga. So I know all about it. I know people that practice it in my area. It is not as common as you’d think. Kasi, the misconception din is everyone should do it. Ang masasabi ko lang is–No. We (are) not forced to marry up to four. It’s a choice pero there are certain circumstances like kailangan you are able to provide the same equal amount of love to every single wife, you need to be able to provide, and you need the approval. The show is educational na rin to the people that don’t know. Para lang matanggal ‘yung line ng discrimination,” said Abdul.
Shayne and Abdul star in the first Muslim-centered teleserye in the Philippines, Legal Wives. They star alongside seasoned actors Dennis Trillo, Alice Dixson, Andrea Torres, Bianca Umali, Cherie Gil, Al Tantay, Bernard Palanca, Kevin Santos, Maricar De Mesa, Juan Rodrigo, and Irma Idlawan. The GMA Network teleserye will air soon on GMA Telebabad.
