With the growing Covid-19 cases, Metro Manila mayors have agreed that curfew must be back immediately.
Starting today, March 15, the curfew will have a duration from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. for two weeks.
Despite the availability of vaccines, Covid cases have continued to spike. Several celebrities and Netizens have shared their thoughts regarding the decision of local officials to impose curfews again.
Kapamilya actress Agot Isidro had something to say since the Philippines is starting to go back to square one. It’s been a year when the first quarantine got imposed in Metro Manila and the rest of the country. To her, the government still did not learn anything from the first wave of the pandemic.
With curfew starting all over again, comedian Macoy Dubs posted a satirical video regarding its return.

Twitter personality Kristoffer Pasion also wondered about the benefits of imposing curfews amid the pandemic. According to Pasion, limiting the hours of people to stay outside would result in them rushing things. As a result, many places would be over-crowded, like stores, terminals, and train stations.
Wondering what’s the science behind curfews in a pandemic. Wouldn’t that just let people cram within a specific duration of the day? Aren’t we avoiding people to cram/gather together? Think of groceries, bus terminals, mrt-lrt lines. Think of how COVID-19 will have its buffet. https://t.co/unhjeuoUip

Celebrity DJ Mo Twister blamed the government, particularly the President’s failure to do his job, appropriately. He stressed that instead of focusing on the pandemic, the President made it clear that his priority is his war-on-drugs campaign.
This is what bad leadership, unqualified leadership looks like. First 1/2 of his presidency he killed his own people in a bogus drug war, the second half he let the pandemic take you down. In the middle of that, he built his friends up to make sure you suffer for years to come. https://t.co/vRCAEAxFs7

Journalist Barnaby Lo compared the nation’s kind of leadership to the United States’ new administration and how it had turned things around in terms of their Covid response. Lo emphasized that it is all about leadership, how a country can rise or turned to ashes.
America stumbled in its pandemic response. But look at how things are turning around. Vaccination rates up, COVID-19 cases down.
I can think of one huge difference –
LEADERSHIP.
It matters who’s in the driver’s seat. https://t.co/ux24l5SvD3

Even former Survivor Philippine host Kiko Rustia blamed the current Administration for the spike of the deadly virus. According to him, some countries were lucky to have a real leader, unlike the Philippines–it is stuck with an incompetent one.
Some countries have leadership.
We’re stuck with bopolship. https://t.co/njcrzJLClP

With the United States slowly progressing against their battle with Wuhan virus, a Netizen even wished that the Philippines could also have a leader like the U.S. President Joe Biden.

Comedian John Lapus shared an example of how careless the government has become toward the pandemic. In the video shared by Lapus, protocol violators were apprehended and asked to get on a bus. The perspective of many, such as Lapus, putting all violators in one place would only mean one thing—infection will spread.

As of today, Covid cases in the Philippines have ballooned to over 600,000. On March 12, the additional number of infected reached 4,578.
Due to the rapid rise of cases in the Philippines, multi-awarded singer and Broadway star Lea Salonga has shared her thoughts on those who got inoculated.
4,578 cases today. But now I have a question that more knowledgeable folks here might be able to answer… 1/2
— Lea Salonga (@MsLeaSalonga) March 12, 2021
She asked that if over 4,000 new cases were reported in just a day, what should the Philippines do next to address this alarming crisis?
Once you’re vaccinated and you get tested, does this mean you’ll register as “positive”? If the answer is yes, might this affect the numbers we’re seeing? Or is the number above just brand new cases, and what should we do next? 2/2

In the meantime, only NCR has imposed curfews to prevent the rising number of cases in the area. Aside from curfews, MMDA will also conduct lockdowns in places swarming with Covid-19 cases.
