Have you ever wanted to do something fun with the kids but have no idea where or how to start being the cool parent or aunt/ uncle? Yes, we see you nodding your head with us and after watching YES DAY on Netflix, we were inspired!
We’ve compiled a list of fun stuff for you to do together for the upcoming school or holidays (27 March- 4 April) or, if you’d like to space it out, you can split these activities throughout five weekends! From tasty recipes to activities that would put a smile on everyone’s faces as well as entertaining shows, you can bet that you’ll be the kids’ favorite adult! (Note: We’ve tried some of this with our nieces/ nephews and earned a ‘Cool’ badge from them. #justsaying)
Day or Weekend 1
Watch: YES DAY
Synopsis: Ice cream for breakfast? Sure. Water balloon battles? Why not? Today, they’re saying yes to having fun… with a few ground rules.
Make: Raspberry Ice Cream in A Bag

Ingredients:
1 cup of half and half cream
½ cup of fresh raspberries
¼ cup of sugar
2 tablespoons of evaporated milk
1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
4 cups of coarsely crushed ice
¾ cup of salt

Directions:
Place a 1-liter resealable plastic bag inside the other
Put the first 5 ingredients inside the inner bag
Seal both bags and get as much air out of the bags as possible
Then, place the 2 bags in a bigger resealable plastic freezer bag
Add in the ice and salt
Seal the bag and again, remove as much air as possible
Shake and knead the cream mixture until thickened for about 5 minutes

Tips:
Wear a glove or wrap your hands with a towel if they get cold.
Don’t know where to get half and half cream? Let’s make it ourselves then. All you need is a cup of whole milk and a tablespoon of butter or margarine. Just drizzle the butter into a measuring cup and top it off with the milk and voila! You’ve got yourselves a half and half cream.
Day or Weekend 2
Watch: Small Foot
Synopsis: After his village banished him for insisting that a species called “Small foot” is real, Migo the yeti embarks on a journey to prove his claim.
Make: Laser Maze

Items needed:
Crepe paper
Masking tape

Get started:
Tear the crepe paper to about 3 inches in width
Tape the crepe paper in a zig-zag pattern
Go high, go low, go back, and forth in order to create a maze

Tips:
Try to tape the crepe paper at different heights and angles so that the kids won’t just crawl through them
Add a prize at the end of the maze to reward the kids!
Day or Weekend 3
Watch: We Can Be Heroes
Synopsis: When alien invaders capture Earth’s superheroes, their kids must learn to work together to save their parents- and the planet.
Make: No-Bake Peanut Butter Treats

Ingredients:
⅓ cup of chunky peanut butter
¼ cup of honey
½ teaspoon of vanilla extract
⅓ cup of non-fat dry milk powder
⅓ cup of quick-cooking oats
2 tablespoons of graham cracker crumbs

Directions:
Mix the peanut butter, honey, and vanilla in a bowl
Then, add and stir in the milk powder, oats, and graham cracker crumbs
Shape into ping pong sized balls
Keep covered and keep in the fridge until you’re ready to serve

Tips:
You can always replace graham cracker crumbs with granola
Drizzle some cocoa powder for some extra yumminess!
Day or Weekend 4
Watch: Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
Synopsis: The eccentric Willy Wonka opens the doors of his candy factory to five lucky kids who learn the secrets behind his amazing confections.

Make: Fairy Jars

Items needed:
Mason jars
Glitter
Glow sticks

Get started:
Decide on a single color of glitter and glow stick for each jar
Cut and pour out the contents of the glow sticks into the jar
Grab some glitter and add it to the jar
Close the lid tightly and shake it like there’s no tomorrow

Tips:
The inside of the glow stick is made of glass. Adults should handle them with extra care.
Each fairy jar can last up to 8 hours.
Day or Weekend 5
Watch: Over the Moon
Synopsis: Fueled by memories of her mother, resourceful Fei Fei builds a rocket to the moon on a mission to prove the existence of a legendary moon goddess.
Make: Banana Sushi

Ingredients:
Bananas
Peanut butter
Crushed cereal
Cheese
Chocolate
Cinnamon sugar

Directions:
Peel and cut the bananas into bite-size pieces (about 1 inch)
Sprinkle or spread any topping you’d like on the bananas

Tips:
Anything that goes well with bananas can be used as a topping!
