On February 28, GMA Network’s original reality kid’s singing competition ‘Centerstage’, delivered the show with its ‘virtual set’, the newest innovation that is first in the Philippines.
This is one of the network’s strategies as they continue to strive to deliver fresh programming amidst the pandemic.
‘Centerstage’ mainly features kids, however, with the current safety protocols, they are prohibited from going out of their respective homes.
With this innovation of the show, kids will perform at their homes while judges will critic them from the studio. This set-up was made possible by the network’s partnership with IMMRSV ASIA Inc., using video mapping technology.
Netizens truly appreciated GMA Network for pursuing the show amidst a global pandemic while ensuring the safety of everyone involved, especially the children.
Exactly! Kaya hahanga ka sa effort nila to still give a good show despite the restrictions#CenterstageGrandReveal

GMA could've just cancelled the show w/c is so convenient to do. Pero push pa rin sila for the kids. Kahit na it required investing on new technology. Good job @GMACenterstage 👍👏👏👏

What I really love about #Centerstage is it is a real singing competition, no drama, no unnecesary pakulo. Plus, the judges know what they are saying – judging based on talent, points out strengths and weaknesses of the contestants. Galing! Keep it up! https://t.co/9LkTqnyFhx

During GMA Network’s zoom conference for its return, Centerstage’s Senior Program Manager Charles Koo explained how the show achieved the set-up.
Accordingly, they coordinated with the local government and family of the child to send a six-member team to their location. The team of course were tested negative COVID-19 to ensure safety.
However, out of the six, only two members will enter the house of the contestant who will wear full PPE.
“Kasi ang commitment natin, we will not be bringing any disease to this household. Pagdating ng shoot, nakagabay parin dun sa bata through teleconferencing app, Zoom or Google Meet, or whatever app, ‘yung vocal coach at iba pang member ng production team na tumutulong dun sa mga team members on the ground,” he said.
They aim to shoot two kids per day, the team will use one set of PPE per location. As they change location, they will also change their PPEs to adhere to their commitment.
Moreover, There is a collaboration between the team and the children. The children will list down possible songs and the team will decide which song to be performed and recorded.
Ultimately, he revealed that all children who passed the screening are given free talent workshops. Regardless if they win or not, the training they experienced will help them become excellent singers in the future.
