King of Talk Boy Abunda shared his thoughts on ABS-CBN’s recent move to partner up with TV5 Network in hopes of expanding its reach on free TV.
In an exclusive interview with Abunda, he explained that the collaboration of the two networks was a wise decision so that the Kapamilya network can slowly return to its feet after being denied a franchise.
“It’s wise that at a certain point, the only way to survive is for us to get together,” he said.
Tito Boy likened the collaboration of the two networks to his relationship with his neighbors. He explained that having interaction with others is important.
“Bago mag shut down, I’ve been in this place [house] for almost 20 years now. Ni hindi ko kilala ‘yung kaharap na bahay ko,” he said.
“Ngayon, nagbibigayan na kame ng ulam. We talk about vaccines, we talk about ulam, we jog, we walk.
“Because I think what we realize is we need to interact, we need to engage, we need to be more compassionate, we need to be more friendly”
“I love it. This is what I’ve discovered and I think this is going to continue beyond the pandemic. That we are not alone,” he added.
To recall, in October 2020, ABS-CBN announced that some shows and movies are coming back to free TV in partnership with the new A2Z channel. It is a block time agreement between the media conglomerate and ZOE Broadcasting Network.
However, some Kapamilya artists already decided to accept projects from other networks.
When asked about his opinion on Kapamilya artists accepting projects from other networks, Tito Boy said that their move is understandable given that they talked to the Kapamilya executives beforehand.
“Depende sa pag-uusap. Makipag-usap ka nang maayos, magpaalam ka nang maayos,” he said.
“Those artists, for economic reasons or emotional, spiritual reasons, makipag-usap ka nang maayos [to ABS-CBN executives]. Lahat nakukuha sa mabuting pag-uusap,”
“But for anybody to go for something decently because he wants to survive should not be taken against the person,” he added.
The ABS-CBN shows being aired on TV5 is a win-win situation for both the networks as this has also helped the Kapatid network raised their ratings.
Boy Abunda currently hosts a showbiz-oriented online show The Best Talk which recently announced its second season. The online show will stream on the Pinoy live streaming app Kumu on Saturday, March 20 at 9 pm.
