Actress Angelica Panganiban revealed the reason why she decided to retire from doing teleserye projects.
Last September, Angelica already announced that Walang Hanggang Paalam, will be her final teleserye. Recently, she reiterated her announcement and said that it was not an overnight decision.
“Yung decision naman na yun hindi yun overnight lang na parang, ‘Ay may presscon ako bukas, gawa nga ako pasabog, sabihin ko last na ‘to.
“Syempre, ilang taon kong iniisip. Minsan kasi kapag nandun ka sa bigat ng trabahong ginagawa mo, mapapaisip ka na. Bakit ko ba ‘to ginagawa? Bakit ko pinapagod ng ganito ang sarili ko?” she shared.
Being in the industry for about 28 years, Panganiban reached a point where she questioned the goal of her career.
“To think na simula 6 years old ako pinapagod ko na ang sarili ko, so parang, ‘Kailan ka titigil? Tapos may question na ako sa sarili ko na, Ano pa ba gusto kong iprove? Lalong-lalo na sa teleserye,” she said.
According to her, she came up with her decision to avoid losing passion for what she is doing.
“Hindi naman sa nawawalan ako ng gana, kaya lang ayokong umabot ako dun, na hindi ko na gusto yung ginagawa ko bago ko siya tigilan,” she said.
“Gusto ko siyang iwan na may mataas na respeto at magaganda memories dun sa naiwan kong projects. Hindi yung may mapapanood tayo tapos sasabihin niyo na ay oo, parang nilaro nalang kasi ayaw niya na,” she added.
Angelica just wanted to make sure that she will not experience burnout from her work.
“Hanggang kaya ko pang ibigay ang isang-daang porsyento ko para sa mga teleserye, ginawa ko naman siya,” she said.
“Parang maiwasan narin siguro yung ma-burnout ako sa mga paggawa ng teleserye. Kasi doing a teleserye and doing a film, magkaiba sila,” she explained.
The actress also said that she is already contented and happy with all of the projects she has made so, she wanted to give the limelight to the new generation.
“Okay na ako, masaya na ako sa mga nagawa ko, parang pwede ko na ‘tong ibigay sa mga susunod na generation, parang sila naman, kaya na rin nila yan,” she shared.
Walang Hanggang Paalam, which started airing in September, top bill Angelica, together with Paulo Avelino, Zanjoe Marudo, and Arci Muñoz.
It is available via Kapamilya Online Live and iWant-TFC.
The multi-awarded actress Panganiban began her TV career with the drama series– Familia Zaragoza in 1995. She also became part of the TV shows Ang TV and G-mik.
The young Angelica’s films include Separada, where she was awarded as the Best Child Actress in FAMAS, and Sarah… Ang Munting Prinsesa. As her career flourished, she became one of the highly-acclaimed leading ladies in the industry. She starred in films like One More Try, Unmarried Wife, and Exes Baggage, her reunion film with ex-boyfriend Carlo Aquino. But her fate in her love life is not that rosy like her career because she experienced a lot of failed relationships.
From there, she realized that people should love themselves first.
“It’s really to love yourself first. Whatever happens to this relationship, I don’t want to waste the emotional investment I’ve made on myself while I was still healing from all those heartaches. You have to respect yourself so that others will treat you the same. You shouldn’t lose that no matter how in love you are with the person you’re currently with,” she said.
However, recently, Angelica publicized her relationship with businessman Gregg Homan. Gregg came when she was calm and contented and everything that happened between them was not forced.
“I have no plans of holding back. There was never really any pressure to be in a relationship—that’s what made the difference with this one. I was calm and contented being alone when this came to my life. This was never forced. I simply opened up slowly to it,” she shared.
“I treat every guy I meet for the first time as barkada. It was the same with him. He pursued me. He found me too pretty. Wala na akong nagawa!” she shared.
Angelica will star with Coco Martin in an upcoming movie directed by Mae Cruz Alviar titled, Love or Money. This film marks their first project together. The film was shot before the pandemic and a supposed entry for MMFF. Finally, after about a year of waiting, it will now be available for streaming on iWantTFC starting March 12.
