Anyone who’d say that no other Kapuso love team has ever rivaled AlDub—the onscreen team-up of Kapuso stars Alden Richards and Maine Mendoza—would be telling a gospel truth.
The team which first sailed in 2015 and sent the emerging stars to superstardom status, posing a formidable threat to the likes of KathNiel, LizQuen, and JaDine—or the ABS-CBN’s Big Three love teams—and created incredible milestones that no other tandems before them, ever achieved.
Interestingly, powerhouse love teams aren’t new to GMA Network, as several onscreen partnerships were successfully produced by the Network, even before the arrival of AlDub. 90s and early 2000s kids surely remember the phenomenal loveteams of Bobby Andrews–Angelu de Leon, Dingdong Dantes-Antoinette Taus, and Polo Ravales and Sunshine Dizon. Most of them are still with GMA Network and have, became its biggest drama stars.
The Kapuso Network continues this tradition of coming up with interesting pairs that their loyal Kapuso viewers will surely love. But are these love teams capable enough to follow the path of AlDub—or other phenomenal love teams, for that matter? Who among these new Kapuso love teams will take over the thrones of the currently lording Kapamilya team-ups, who have been dominating television, movies, and even the endorsements, for at least a decade?
Jak Roberto and Barbie Forteza (JakBie).
The couple worked together in 2017 and 2019, respectively via the primetime series, Meant to Be and Kara Mia. They celebrated their third anniversary as real-life sweethearts in May 2019. There are strong indications that they will still be together come their fourth anniversary. And who knows, they might end up getting married, sooner or later.
Jillian Ward and Vince Crisostomo (JilVin).
Undoubtedly the number one-rating afternoon drama of 2020, PrimaDonnas has paved the way for new love teams Kapuso viewers will keep their tabs on, and the series will unfold new revelations in 2021, there seems no other way for the budding onscreen partnership to take but forward.
Ward, a homegrown Kapuso star, started as a child star at GMA Network. Among her most memorable lead roles are the ones she played for tv series, Trudis Liit and Daldalita. Vince Crisostomo, on the other hand, entered show business in 2018 and had since played several roles on television. Prima Donnas, marks the first time they worked together, which is successful, judging their ever-growing following.
Kim de Leon and Lexi Fernandez (KimLex)
It’s hard to miss Kim and Lexi’s brimming chemistry as a love team. Their juvenile partnership is being tested through the upcoming GNTV series, My Fantastic Pag-Ibig, and fans’ massive excitement just gives a hint about the success the pair is set to achieve in the future.
Both hailed from the seventh season of GMA Network’s Artista Search, StarStruck, de Leon and Fernandez admitted their ease and confidence in working with each other. Their partnership now put under probation via their GMA News TV series, promises an incredible future which GMA Network seems to be looking forward to, by giving them worthwhile projects.
Kyline Alcantara and Yasser Marta (KySser)
Bilangin Ang Bituin Sa Langit is becoming a potent platform for the new Kapuso team-up Kyline and Yasser to thrive. Aside from their unmissable chemistry, working alongside industry veterans, Nora Aunor, Dante Rivero, and Mylene Dizon–has inspired them to work on their acting chops, and to their credit, they’ve been very effective. And considering their exponentially-growing fanbase, not give them a follow-up show will be an utterly stupid choice to make for GMA.
Doing lock-in taping for their TV series, Bilangin Ang Bituin Sa Langit has given the two the perfect opportunity to be close. Marta, himself, expressed that working with Alcantara has never been that hard, admitting he finds ease with the Kapuso actress. On the other hand, she initially rejected the idea of being close with him but eventually realized that all her worries about him were wrong. Their first team-up played a crucial role in bringing them together, not just as a new loveteam but a powerful tandem their home Network will surely invest in for succeeding projects.
Migo Adecer and Kate Valdez (MigAte)
Kate and Migo had a memorable start as on-screen partners via the epic telefantasya, Encantadia in 2016. In 2020, they again work as a love team for the primetime soap Anak ni Waray vs Anak ni Biday and the GMA News and Public Affairs, mini-series Project Destination. There is no denying the two’s sweet romantic chemistry, which can only continue if the Kapuso Network keeps giving them good projects.
While both ruled out the possibility of them ending up in a romantic relationship, both have teased their fans of the possibility of them becoming real-life sweethearts. Valdez once joked about the matter in a jojowain-o-totropahin challenge, and welcomed the chance of being romantically-linked with Adecer, but only if the guy is single, which is not the case. Their continued stint as love team on the primetime drama, Anak Ni Waray vs Anak ni Biday, remains to be something fans would easily swoon for, any time of the day.
Miguel Tanfelix and Ysabel Ortega (YsaGuel).
YsaGuel is one screaming proof that two people can attract a huge fanbase even without an ongoing project. Tanfelix and Ortega are yet to star on their first TV project as lead stars, and yet fans are already rallying for them with incredible support. A big launching series seems to be the only thing missing for YsaGuel to take-off, which will most likely take place this year.
Rumor has it that Tanfelix has been courting Ortega since last year. Ortega, who just moved to the Kapuso Network in 2019, was a Kapamilya star for four years and had appearances on some Kapamilya shows. Their selection as two of the most crucial lead characters in the upcoming Voltes V: Legacy excites audiences.
Mikee Quintos and Kelvin Miranda.
The Lost Recipe’s trailer makes the upcoming Kapuso series look too grand and like it’s going to be successful; that believing its lead stars. Quintos and Miranda, will also emerge victoriously don’t sound an insane idea. After all, the management wouldn’t just pair them up if they don’t see the potential of their love team. While that remains a question, fans (and also bashers) are keeping their tabs on their series which premiered on January 18.
Miranda, whose articulation and nuances would remind audiences of Daniel Padilla, who looks very confident; while his journey as an actor remains at the developing stage, his team-up with Quintos seems poised to take them to better places in show business. Subsequent projects can only solidify their partnership, and more shippers can only expect to hop on their bandwagon.
