The 1996 hit single Do You Miss Me? by Jocelyn Enriquez will surely be recognizable for every ‘90s kid.
For US-based Filipino singer Garth Garcia, the song is his favorite. He loved it so much as a kid that he worked on reintroducing the song to this generation.
The former Star in a Million finalist did an official cover, adding a new flavor to fit the taste of today’s market.
One netizen commented, “This version is so fresh. Very now ‘yung version ni Garth. He’s really a good singer.”
“Garth knows his music very well. Hope he continues to release more songs,” one music lover said.
Four years ago, in 2017, Garcia moved to the United States where he is now finishing his postgraduate studies at Harvard Business School.
While studying and doing business on the side, the singer also handles his events business called Starlink Productions.
It is a licensed LLC that mounts events and concerts in Los Angeles, California and other states. On top of that, Garcia founded “Doctors on the Go,” a mobile company for access to on-the-go doctors based in Southern California.
Back in the Philippines, Garcia has already shown his passion for music and the performing arts.
He emerged one of the finalists in the second season of ABS-CBN’s singing competition, Star in a Million, and earned a number of accolades.
To name a few, Garcia was MOR101.9 Best New Artist winner in 2014, PMPC Star Awards for Music as New Male Recording Artist of the Year in 2015, Asian Excellence Awards’ Outstanding Recording Artist Award in 2016, and Gawad Musika’s Best Male Recording Artist of the Year in 2017.
In the US, Garcia still reaped recognition. He was a WCOPA multi-medalist, Best RNB Artist for Spotlight Awards, Los Angeles, California in 2018, and the only Filipino nominated at Asians on Film Festival in Hollywood, California for Best Music Video in 2019. The migration abroad allowed Garcia to broaden his reach and musicality.
In a virtual concert held last December, he was able to perform with Enriquez and bring back the Filipino-American singer’s hit song.
Do You Miss Me? made it to the charts back in the day, hitting the 49th spot on the Billboard Hot 100, 17th on the Rhythmic Top 40, 14th on the Top 40 Mainstream chart, 8th on the Hot Dance Singles Sales chart, and 12th on the Canadian Singles Chart. Lucky Boys Confusion released a rock version of the song in 2001.
Garcia makes the most out of every opportunity that comes his way. Following the shared performance, he reached out to the team behind the single and cooked up a revival.
He said, “I’m excited to share this track with my fans as it is something different from my previous works, and I got the chance to work with an LA-based producer [Miyamoto], who worked with Hollywood artists.”
Garcia worked with Kevin Huang, music producer behind big names in the industry.
Exciting times are definitely in store for the Fil-Am Prince of OPM. Garcia’s Do You Miss Me? cover is now streaming worldwide on digital music platforms.
Watch out for the upcoming music video on March 5, directed by Christian Reasonda and Brian Perales. Garcia’s outfits in the video are creations of Hollywood designer Rocky Gathercole.
