P-Pop group MNL48 gave their reactions to the brewing rumors that there is a sort of ‘competition’ with other P-Pop groups such as the new and rising groups BGYO and SB19.
P-Pop refers to popular Filipino contemporary music originating from the OPM genre. P-Pop groups saw a rise in fame in recent years, especially in the 2020s.
During our zoom interview with the girl group, some members of the MNL48 group gave their answers to the rumors about ‘competition’ as they explained the true goal of their group.
The group’s center girl Abby Trinidad said that their group’s aim of bringing joy to people also aligns with the goals of other P-Pop groups hinting at their true standing in the ‘competition’ issue.
“Lahat naman ng groups, we have the same goals which is to make other people happy and inspire them. Siguro the love na nabuo sa MNL48 sa first generation pa lang hanggang ngayon sa third generation, hindi niyo na matatanggal sa MNL48,” she said.
“Of course ‘yung parang na-touch na natin ‘yung other people’s lives. ‘Yun ang pinaka-goal ng MNL48,” said Trinidad.
Another member Jamie Alberto shared that MNL48 shows their passion in what they do which lets them conquer any hardships that their group faces.
“MNL48 really has its heart for what we’re doing. Not only are we skilled in performing, acting, and everything but andun talaga ‘yung puso, ‘yung pag-blaze ng fire within us. The journey isn’t easy,” she said.
MNL48 member Sheki Arzaga explained that their love for each other is what keeps their group together. She also said that they all treat each other as if they were all a family.
“Una sa lahat kaya kami nagkakasundo kahit big girl group kami kasi ‘yung strong love namin for each other kasi ang dami naming pinagdaanan, bondings, madaming nadapa, madaming nag-rise,” said Arzaga.
“‘Yung love namin for each other pantay-pantay siya, equal sa lahat kaya siguro nagkakasundo kami. Kaya pag nag-performance kami para talaga kaming pamilya,” she added.
MNL48 is the third international sister group of AKB48, after Indonesia’s JKT48, and Thailand’s BNK48. AKB48 group refers to the sister groups of the Japanese idol girl group AKB48.
