Through his Tiktok account, Mayor Isko Moreno launched a social media event to share information about Manila’s vaccine roadmap and frequently asked questions about the COVID-19 vaccine.
When asked why he used Tiktok as a medium to spread awareness about the COVID-19 vaccine, Mayor Isko said the app serves as an outlet of information without the cons of hard selling.
“Ang maganda kasi sa Tiktok, in a few seconds, you can use that as an outlet like government ‘no, na hindi hard sell,” said Mayor Isko.
Additionally, Mayor Isko highlights how Tiktok helped the public during lockdowns. As a result, the Manila Mayor use it to communicate their city’s roadmap for the COVID-19 vaccine and rollout.
“I think having Tiktok nowadays helps us. All of us, I think, in the world ‘no, especially nung ECQ time nakalabas yung mga stress. People are into it, so why not use it as a government form of communication,” said Mayor Isko.
During his social media event, he highlighted the plans of their local government. The Manila City LGU implemented an online pre-registration of the COVID-19 vaccine and procured 12 refrigerator facilities that can house over 900,000 vials of the COVID-19 vaccine.
As for Tiktok, several celebrities have used the social media app during the pandemic. The app also provided numerous initiatives to help the Filipino people, such as typhoon donations, fundraising events, and information campaigns.
