Can love really feed someone? In reality, since the feeling of love is abstract, it does not necessarily mean that it would quench your hunger. Still, love has a deeper meaning that people are in the process of understanding.
During the virtual media conference of GMA Network’s newest drama series, “Babawiin Ko Ang Lahat”, its cast Pauline Mendoza, Therese Malvar, Liezel Lopez, Dave Bornea, Manolo, Pedrosa, and Kristoffer Martin answered an interesting question—”Mapapakain ka ba ng love?”
If it’s taken into its literal meaning, of course, love cannot feed a person. However, for Pauline, love is much more than just love. It is about loving oneself as well.
“Well actually totoo na hindi ka mapapakain ng pag-ibig. With someone you love, I think it’s not [all] about love eh. I think it’s also about for yourself. Kailangan laging may matitira para sa sarili mo. Kaya nga di ba sinasabi nila ‘love yourself first bago ka magmahal ng iba.’ Pero ‘yung pagmamahal galing sa pamilya mo, ‘yun ang hinding-hindi mawawala”, she answered.
The meaning and giving of love are also tackled by their teleserye. With one meaning out, Pauline realized that family will always be there, even until the end.
‘Yun din yung lesson na binibigay ng Babawiin Ko Ang Lahat; which is all about family. Realization ko, kahit ano man ang mangyari, magkaron ka man ng struggle sa life mo, ang matatakbuhan mo sa huli is your family,” Pauline added.
For her co-actress Therese Malvar, love is not just about giving. It is a way to drive a person to do certain things. That is why love alone cannot support a person.
“Dagdag ko lang din, tama yung sinabi ni Paulilne. Hindi ka mapapakain ng pag-ibig, ng pag-ibig lang. Kasi love is something that it’s a drive for us to do more. Parang sinasabi natin na ‘libre lang mangarap pero wag kang mangarap lang.’ Because when you love, we do these things because we are loving. So yes hindi tayo pinapakain ng pag-ibig lang,” Therese said.
Dave likewise agrees with Therese that love alone cannot feed a person. It only serves as an individual’s fuel to do things. The actor also said that since it is the driving force of people, love would also make people do things to make their relationship thrive.
“I do agree na yung love na yun, yun yung magiging drive mo. ‘Yun yung energy na alam mo yun, through ups and downs kailangan niyong gawin for both of you to survive kung ano man ang dapat. Kasi sabi nga ni direk Jules kanina na ‘hindi ka mabubuhay kung wala kang pagmamahal’,” the actor said.
For Liezel, love cannot feed you, but money can. Nevertheless, money cannot be used to measure one’s affection. The actress also stressed that it’s better to be with the person you love through ups and downs rather than leave them when they have nothing. If that happens, then that is not love.
“Bubusugin ka ng pagmamahal. Pero hindi dapat pera yung batayan sa pagmamahal. Well, mas okay na ‘yung through ups and downs magkasama kayo. Kesa iiwan mo ‘yung isang tao dahil wala siyang pera or hindi ka niya kayang busugin. Pwede ka naman niyang busugin ng pagmamahal ‘di ba? Hindi ka rin mamahalin ng pera,” Liezel said.
Meanwhile, Manolo believes that if a person thinks that love can feed him, then they should accept whatever consequence it may come after.
“Ako depende talaga sa values mo. If you value love as your number one, and you accept the consequences of focusing on love, then why not? It’s your values so you should accept the consequences,” Manolo said.
But with the actor not giving much thought about love, he agrees that love also cannot feed a person.
“Pero ako personally, love is not a big value for me so I agree with the statement na [hindi] ka mapapakain ng pagmamahal.” he added.
For Kristoffer, he takes the saying as a metaphor. For him, love is like food. If it can make you feel full, then it’s worth it.
“For me kasi I take that question as a metaphor. Nabubusog ka ba ng pagmamahal? Totoo. Kasi everytime we intake hope, okay ka. Masasabi mo busog ako. When a person fell in love na mabubusog siya, it’s really worth it, it’s really enough all the time. When a person kasi loves you, ‘yun lang ‘yung nagma-matter. When you’re eating ha? Kasi I take it as a metaphor,” Kristoffer said.
Moreover, the actor stressed that a person in love should be selfless. If one knows how to appreciate someone, accepting everything that his partner has to offer is the best choice.
“Kung mabubusog ka because of love, selfless na dapat kasi you are always thinking about yourself. If you’re gonna love a person, tatanggapin mo ‘yun ng buo. Kasi in the beginning, ginusto mo ‘yun, tatanggapin mo ‘yun lahat, mabusog ka lang. So whatever happens next, nasa sa’yo na ‘yun kung gagawin or tatanggapin,” he added.
“Babawiin Ko Ang Lahat” tells the story of a young woman, Iris, whose perfect life is upended with the return of her father’s original family.
Among the members of the cast are seasoned actresses Carmina Villaroel, Tanya Garcia-Lapid, and veteran actor John Estrada.
