The viewers’ bet emerged as the winner of the fourth regular edition of Tawag ng Tanghalan. In spite of getting the lowest score from the judges, Taguig-native JM Yosures ultimately won the grand finals on Saturday, after earning a perfect 100% score from the viewers, which comprised 50% of his overall score.
He bested fellow grand finalists, Batangas-bet Rachell Laylo and Bukidnon’s representative Ayegee Paredes who finished second and third in the competition, respectively.
Yosures’ win has been widely expected, prior to the grand finals, as he frequently topped the viewers’ scores in the semi-finals, proving his immense popularity among the show’s followers. It can be recalled, nevertheless, he was also a consistent top-scorer based on the judging panel’s scores, and had, in fact, received one the most number of standing ovations throughout the entire season.
During the grand finals, he was again given a standing ovation by most of the judges for his Top 6 performance, which sent him straight to the Top 3 showdown, where he sang a Lady Gaga-medley. The performance could have been flawless, had he not forgotten a portion of the third song’s lyrics, a flaw that evidently dragged his overall performance, down.
While Yosures’ struggle with his final performance evidently cost his overall hurados’ score as reflected by the 38.9% he received from the entire judging panel, his 50% text votes score flipped his ranking from third to first based on the combined judges’ score and text votes.
In second place, Rachelle Laylo managed to earn a near-perfect 48.7% judges’ score, and 28.9% text votes, while Ayegee Paredes came in third, earning 44.9% from the judges, and 28.2% from text votes.
Yosures’ overwhelming lead-in text votes, ultimately vetoed the judges’ verdict, and made him the sixth grand winner of the biggest singing talent search, in the country.
Following his win, Yosures received a number of incredible prizes, including a PhP1 million cash prize, a 2 million worth of house and lot, a Star Magic talent management contract, and a recording contract with ABS-CBN’s recording label, Star Magic. He is set to make appearances on Kapamilya shows, including the musical variety program, ASAP Natin ‘To.
