Manila — The pandemic does not preclude Far Eastern University from marking its 93rd founding anniversary. In accordance, formal classes are suspended. Alternative classes or otherwise known as “FLARE” sessions are offered instead.
There are also online booths and contests such as Himig ng Tamaraw, SAYAWIT, CinemaAlfresco that many fellow tamaraws participated in. But everyone’s most anticipated event, the virtual concert– One Concierto Piyu is the one that killed the night.
With local homegrown talents from students of Far Eastern University shaking the live stream, thousands of fellow tamaraws watched the grand online concert held last February 11th. Facebook live views reached up to 81,000, the event also trended on Twitter with the hashtag #OneConciertoPiyu.
The concert also served as a fund-raising event, where proceeds will be donated to students struggling in online education.
The special appearance of Rep. Sarah Elago, Sir Renz Saavedra, Dr. Gia Sison, Ms. Samira Gutoc, Sorsogon Gov. Chiz Escudero, Sassa Girl, and The Juans, also brought more enthusiasm to the online concert. Here are the highlights of each guest speakers during the event:
The first special guest is the youngest member of the House of Representatives, Rep. Sarah Elago raised that the youth are the only hope of our country. She explained that despite this pandemic and all of the disasters we have experienced, we should still be raising our voice to have a clear plan for the safe reopening of schools.
The pride of FEU, Sir Renz Saavedra who is also a well-known Tiktok influencer, shared the life lessons he has learned within the 5 years of stay in the Far Eastern University.
Dr. Gia Sison, a mental health advocate, informed the students of FEU that no matter what happens she will always be there for the university.
Ms. Samira Gutoc, a well-known advocate of women and children’s rights, exclaimed that she is one with others to envision the best for our country. She expressed gratitude toward the green and gold community for being brave in the face of the pandemic.
Former senator and current governor of Sorsogon, Chiz Escudero mentioned that fellow Tamaraws ought to view themselves as “pag-asa ng bayan” or hope for all. He pointed out how each and every one of us has a duty to our motherland, particularly during the time of the pandemic.
Tiktok influencer and FEU alumna Sassa girl shared that the event is still enjoyable despite being held online. She also urged every student to vote for the upcoming election this 2022.
The last special guest, the notable mainstream band The Juans, shared an empowering message through the entire FEU community. They encouraged everyone to vote for the next 2022 elections. Highlighting that young people should be interested in all that’s going on around the country and learn how to take responsibility. They also reminded everyone to be brave, adding, “pursue your dreams and be the change you want to see.”
The encouraging and inspiring messages of the special guests brought optimism and motivation to the whole tamaraw community.
