Kapuso actress-host Carmina Villaroel is thankful to ABS-CBN even though she’s currently a Kapuso.
In an interview, the actress recalled the time when she got pregnant with her twins. This was when Carmina took a short break from the entertainment industry, and she and her husband Zoren Legaspi went to the States.
Because of her break, her name in the showbiz industry was unseen, as expected. But what ABS-CBN did to Carla Villaroel changed her perception of the network,
“I was in the States, doon ko ipinanganak iyong kambal. ‘Tapos naalala ko si Tita Dolor calling me up. ‘Mina, umuwi ka na dito, may dalawang shows na naghihintay sa iyo sa ABS.’
At her lowest point as an actress, she was shocked that ABS-CBN tapped and offered her a leading lady role in Recuerdo de Amor with Diether Ocampo and resumed her stint in Oka Tokat.
“Ha? Dalawang shows?’’ she asked.
“Oo, mayroong teleseryeng naghihintay sa iyo kasama si Diether Ocampo. Umuwi ka na dito.’ Ganyan!” replied Tita Dolor.
This made Carmina grateful to the Kapamilya network, which continued to believe in her ability to play leading roles despite becoming a mother to twins.
She recalls, “Doon ako talaga nagulat na parang wow! That’s why naman thankful ako, even if I’m with GMA now, thankful ako sa ABS. Kasi naniwala pa rin sila sa akin. They still got me and ang dami pa rin nilang shows na binigay nila sa akin.”
She also stressed that although an actress is already a mother, this shouldn’t be her hindrance to do their job which ABS-CBN proved, “Kasi feeling ko even if you gave birth already, even if you’re a mom already, hindi naman siya dapat maging hindrance sa career mo. Unang-una, hindi naman ako 18-year-old na kakailanganin ko pa ng love team.”
She even shared that her comeback on ABS-CBN was smooth because no one had an issue about her pregnancy. After all, she didn’t confirm nor deny it.
“Hindi ko makakalimutan iyon kasi first teleserye ko na mommy na ako na parang feeling ko, lahat ng tao, na-ano sa akin na, ‘Nanganak ba siya?’ ‘Di ba, kasi parang hindi ko naman dineny, hindi ko rin naman kinonfirm. Bumalik lang ako dito pero wala ako sinasabi na, ‘Hello, I have twins!’ At the same time, hindi rin naman ako nagde-deny. Pero no one dared na, ‘Is it true that you gave birth in the States?’ So dedma iyong mga tao.
“So paano ko ba sasabihin sa kanila na although of course ABS knew then, hindi ko naman dine-deny iyon,” said Villarroel.
Moreover, Villaroel at that time being 26-years-old, felt like she was doing what she loves: to be in the entertainment industry.
“Sobrang love ko iyong industriya. Nakikita naman ng mga tao iyon. Kaya sinasabi kong thank you dahil binigyan niyo pa rin ako ng opportunity to act once again.”
Just like many of the celebrities we’ve been admiring over the years, Carmina started her career as a child star on the local entertainment scene.
Since then, she has become a film star as she has appeared in numerous movies, including “One More Try” (2012), “Everyday I Love You” (2015), “Love You To The Stars And Back” (2017), “Wild Little Love” (2019) and “Sunod” (2019) as her most recent film star.
Presently, Carmina is working as one of the talents of GMA Network, after staying for 5 years and juggles her duties as a hands-on homemaker to her husband Zoren Legaspi and their twins Mavy and Cassy.
