Actress Bea Alonzo finally speaks up about the ‘loyalty’ issue thrown against her after leaving ABS-CBN.
With the non-renewal of the ABS-CBN franchise and the negative effect of the pandemic, several Kapamilya celebrities left the network.
As they leave, these artists received criticism for not being loyal to their home network and for leaving at their lowest point.
In an exclusive interview with PEP, Alonzo finally addressed the issue and revealed that she is now a freelancer.
The actress believes that it is unfair to label an artist as ‘unloyal’ without knowing the reason behind their decision to shift to another network.
“But, siyempre, iba-iba tayo ng personal na pinagdadaanan. It’s not fair to measure one’s loyalty just because that person did one show in TV5. Siyempre, it’s so hard to judge a person, lalo na sa panahon na ito. We don’t know what they’re going through. We don’t know what their needs are. We don’t know kung ano’ng pangangailangan ng pamilya nila.”
Bea then pleads to stop criticizing celebrities, like her, who left ABS-CBN following the non-renewal of its franchise.
“Ano siguro, mas pepreno ako sa judgments. Mas pepreno ako sa pagbibigay ng opinyon ko tungkol sa mga taong yon, kasi hindi natin alam kung anong pinagdadaanan nila. Oo, may judgments at may judgments. Pero, siyempre, ifi-filter mo na lang din kung ano yung ia-absorb mo, kasi kapag in-absorb mo lahat, siguro baka maloka ka na lang, di ba? Papangalagaan mo rin ang mental health mo. You have to filter what you absorb.”
Despite this, the actress believes that everyone has been loyal to ABS-CBN and has worked hard to achieve their own success.
“Ang akin kasi, everyone has been loyal to ABS. And, sa totoo lang, ABS was so gracious in giving us jobs, giving us our careers. But, siyempre, we also worked hard to have our careers. We also made sacrifices to get here. It’s not like it was just handed to us, di ba?”
She then expressed her sincerest gratitude to ABS-CBN for paving her way to the showbiz industry.
“But ABS has been so, so nice and kind in giving us projects. Kahit na may mga panahon na we messed up, but yung ABS nandiyan pa rin.”
Last November 26, 2020, ABS-CBN released an official statement confirming that Bea is no longer part of Star Magic. Alonzo is currently managed by Shirley Kuan.
Alonzo also clarified that she asked permission from her bosses before leaving the network.
She also shared that she’s open to work with ABS-CBN again if there are offers.
Bea describes 2021 as ‘a year of being open to possibilities’, as she is ready to venture to other networks or companies as a freelancer.
Bea Alonzo launched her career in 2001 through Star Magic as part of the Batch 10. Some of her major projects include K2BU, Kay Tagal Kang Hinintay, and It Might Be You. She also played the lead role of the Philippine adaptation of the TV sitcom I Love Betty La Fea.
She was also paired with John Lloyd Cruz. The tandem undeniably became one of the well-loved Kapamilya love teams of all time.
